RE: Steem HF21 - How can I help Steem and then help myself?

in #hf215 years ago

A very easy non-intrusive way to bring Steem subtly into it is two fold:

1- Soft consensus storage . Basically using the blockchain to store state data of user game progress, skills and inventory so if you or your server disappear then their progress is retrievable onchain, would be nice if the game mainly interacts via the steem api and record progress on chain every so often, maybe local store first and then every hour or so backup to chain. Could make mention of this technology in the game info pages about page etc and even a powered by Steem splash screen.

Secondly have a look at https://forum.drugwars.io and https://forum.splinterlands.io, both are Steem powered forums for games, the latter using both Steem and Steem-Engine SPT token distribution.

These forums can be created using https://tokenbb.io for the freemium forum and upgrade options available on https://shop.buildteam.io/product-category/tokenbb/ for things like open theme code , custom domain, custom beneficiary so you as the forum owner can earn from the activity of your users. Also can set it so topic creators earn a share of all rewards of the activity under their topic so incentivises them to keep conversation flowing.

We used forums for bug bounties and feature suggestions and we had enough Steem power to give comments like 50 cents to $1. If you don’t have enough SP can lease some on https://dlease.io

I’m a witness and CEO of buildteam.io the above are our products, if you ever want to talk business on Steem hit me up on Discord - thecryptodrive#8144 I can also introduce you to the Steem Business Alliance.

Cool - thanks for the detailed response.

As the game is intended to be downloaded from STEAM, the team there will be providing some code that will allow 'unlocks' to be written back to the STEAM server. From past experience (earlier editor experience) this code is fairly transparent and can be modified, but I can't recall exactly if it's done by communicating back to their server via API, this isn't my area and my bro is doing the heavy lifting here, so I'll have to have a chat with him.

I can't see why we couldn't modify this code (why re-invent the wheel) to call the the Steem.api as well.

In the first instance rather then writing to the Steem blochain I was thinking of doing something simple for a quick win, like reading... For instance if Steemians play the game and create a character with identical to their Steem ID, they get an in game bonus's based on their Steem reputation for instance.

Once we get this simple win on the board, proved the product and peek interest (and potentially get some support) we could look to write to Steem.

Right now our main focus is just building the game itself ( a product) as the priority and getting some test users etc - just to make sure people enjoy playing it.

We will then see what can be done re STeam and STeem sort of thing.

Once this is done It will have to be made Steam and Steem ready.

Thanks for your Discord contact; I'll flick you a message when i can - greatly appreciated.

Just be careful with reputation because it is generally considered an unreliable unprofessional metric, it is easily gamed with purchasing bot votes to up reputation. Look up Steem User Authority instead (UA) for now.

Aghh..Good point - UA seems interesting, but how can I know for sure the UA score isn't bias as well (not saying it is - but could be built into the algos).

I guess the point is I'll need to work out something reasonable and widely accepted - perhaps native SP for instance (also encourage powering up :)). hmmn anyways, some time to think on :)
