RE: Captured By The Apache: Hermann's Tribe Takes A Beating

in #history5 years ago

Victorio was a very wise man but he could have no idea how many palefaces had already taken over the land. In 1870 the California Gold Rush had already happened and Wisconsin had been a state for over 20 years.

Yes good points, I wonder if they had heard that California was all taken over? He must have gotten a glimpse of the huge numbers though, I wondered where he had been to see them.

I'm guessing that their world was pretty local. Can you travel 50 miles on a horse in a day?

Howdy back Melinda...yes you can do that but horses need to stop every 20 to 40 miles for rest and water. But the Apache were runners and were trained from early ages both male and female on distance running in the desert so they could actually stay ahead of a mounted calvary that was chasing them for instance by just keeping ahead of them and not stopping.
On my posts I'm going to get into the training they did but military records detail accounts of Apache scouts and warriors running 70 miles in a day!

Wow! That seems unimaginable. A Marathon is 26 miles

I know, they were legendary and their extreme training from a young age made them almost superhuman!
and I'm going to get to that part of their history someday on my posts. lol.
