Thanks @icedrum! Those batteries really did need covering, the electrician that came out to do repairs a while back had highly recommended that we get up some wall to protect them from the elements. He had also suggested making a polystyrene box directly around them to keep them insulated, but we havent gotten that far yet.

Excellent - the shade should prove sufficient - the batteries themselves can get hot when charged hard so would not want to be to insulated by polystyrene too closely. They also need good air flow (to vent the explosive Hydrogen gas emissions which are inevitable ... never smoke near batteries for real!). Looks like you have it all under control nicely :D
