An update on the Isle of Steem RPG - and the problem with wanting to do everything at once (again)

in #letsmakeagame6 years ago

In case it hasn't been abundantly clear lately, I've been creating a lot of Steem Monsters focused content recently. That probably won't change. What will, however change, is the lack of progress updates recently on my Isle of Steem role playing game.

In case you have no idea what the project is about:

Docile creatures are attacking anything that moves.
People scared and confused.
For years, the witnesses have been silent.
The pleas of the common folk remain unanswered. What is the cause of this corruption, and how will the world mend?
Are you the hero that will save Steem?

I have not forgotten about this project, or the other billion ones I've got on the go all at once. I'm always sidetracked, or become incredibly enthusiastic about a certain notion, thing, or whatever, and find my attentions (and passions) wandering all over the place. I want to be the very definition of a renaissance man, being adept and talented in as many disciplines as possible.

Further to that, to use every waking moment in the most efficient way possible - and fill it with as much experience, creativity, or amusement as I possibly can. I don't enjoy being idle. I must always be thinking, or doing,

So without further rambling on my inadequacies when it comes to controlling the inevitable passage of time, here's a list of things I "got done" so far:

  • Quest #1 - Introduction area, including "Intro Boss Fights"
  • Quest #2 - Evil Upgoats
  • Quest #3 - Magical Powders
  • Quest #4 - The Case of Laura Lemons
  • Quest #5 - A Hidden Secret (Literally)

The ideas I have for this project are far too numerous to list here, that's why I'm tracking the content and build process closely on GitHub, in order to keep myself organised.

There's still a literal mountain of content to be written (including a level for "Steem Peak" @jarvie, let me know if you want any particular inclusions! The other level ideas I'm playing around with in my mind at the moment include a level for dlive, where streamers roam around, lost, being paid in worthless lino tokens, as well as a bunch of Steem Monsters related content.

There's a bunch of stuff that I've probably forgotten that I've included or started working on for this project, but you can find everything I've (properly) built so far in this @dtube video:

As always, let me know in the comments if you want to be a NPC, or have an idea for a quest, idea, or monster that's not already listed on github:

I'll be live streaming my continued development on @vimm as I add more and more content. :)

Upvotes, Resteems, and are encouraged on this content, particularly if you want to be involved, or spread the word. It won't speed up my development of the game, however.

I would much rather you show your appreciation, or contributions for in-game content via engaging comments.

It's awesome that you have your project on github and I'm hoping to get mine on there. I'm actually considering trying to get mine working on itch.io which would let people play it and keep their save files while I develop it and update it. It's an interesting thought either way. Designing a whole game solo is like constantly that "do everything at once" feeling for me. I'm glad I decided to stop and just hammer out the database... having to stop and start with that was annoying. Now I just have to tweak it for the most part and add in key items and anything special I think up so I can focus on world building and scripting. It's certainly a learning experience. Best wishes bro.

Would any game breaking bugs / issues cause that previous save file to have some problems? I know this has been the case in some games were a patch / update breaks save files.

I'm working with one generation older, and will just have the PC version - I really hope you can create something amazing with your project along the way. The great thing about Steem is we can work as a community to support each other on these sorts of projects.

Hmmm I'm not sure honestly. I haven't tried playing the html5 version of the game I'm working on, all of my testing has been on Windows 10, but I'll try to check that out.

OMG, that literally looks like the first game I wrote!!! Awesome. Wish you all the best of luck with it.
