Saving Likes

When I joined Steemit almost two years ago, I almost completely stopped using Instagram, which had been my main social media outlet for the past few years. I posted all my self portrait and all the random stuff to IG, but I was getting more and more irrotated because of advertisement and the feed not being chronological.

I became so invested with Steemit and felt strongly that it gave me back a lot more than Instagram ever did, so I almost forgot about IG. I only updated my IG every once in a while and mostly used it to scroll for more photographic inspiration. It is a great source if you overlook all the bullshit there.

I recently got back to using Instagram (same username as here) because I like to post random shit on the stories, and there is no denying that a lot of people use it and you can potentially get a bigger reach for your work. Also, I have some normie friends who just use Instagram.

Using Steemit as my main social media for over a year, I got used to saving my upvotes to only what I really liked, really putting in thought where my attention and likes were directed. On more active days, I’d have to lower the percentages so that I wouldn’t use up all my voting power.

Now that I’m back to using Intagram on the side, I have been noticing that I am quite scarce with my likes. It’s weird because the likes on Instagram are free and there is no limit how much you can give likes per day. I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing to not like every half decent picture. Quality over quantity, always.

If you use Instagram, how do you go about giving likes to people and has Steemit effected that behavior?

Try to find three pictures from Steemians on that screenshot of my recent likes on Instagram. First one to find the pics and name the users gets a 100% upvote.

I use Instagram (anonymously) to keep up with firearms and military-oriented stuff and I follow you also. I have not posted anything, ever, and don't give likes. I just don't see the point.

How sneaky! 😁

I have some normie friends who just use Instagram.

Damn normies. Can't trust 'em. You're one of us now.

I've found I'm stingy with likes on Facebook - which is silly, since a quick "Like" is a decent way of just saying "Hello. I see you over there." I'd like to ditch it entirely but I guess I have "normie" friends as well. Plus I wouldn't have seen my dream job was hiring if I'd been avoiding it, and now I have to keep up with what we do for publicity.

On the other hand, I should probably be less stingy with votes on Steemit. Since I have less time to be on here, now, I rarely use up my voting power. Suddenly I realize, what the hell am I saving it for?

What can you do, if you wanna keep in touch with some of the norms, you gotta be on other social medias besides Steemit. sigh

Now I am interested, what is this dream job of yours?

I give pretty big votes to a few favourite people who always put out great content, because I'm too lazy to find new people to follow, and I only vote manually so it takes time.

It's a historic smoke shop in the heart of Boston. I've been there about a year now. It was funny, because I told my wife, "I'm not going back to retail unless Peretti's is hiring." Then the next day I saw their ad on Facebook.

Ohh that looks like a very inspiring shop to work or visit! Very old school feel and I love it.

Hehe - yes. I call it the 'facebook thumb'. I hover over a like or heart button and then I'm like "Ehm... Why would I do this?" - and then I decide to not push the button :')

Hahahah I'm so happy to hear I'm not the only one who actually thinks before liking something on other social medias. I think it's interesting how Steemit has changed our social media behaviour, even when we are on other platforms. Steemit's reach is not huge yet, but the effects of it are bigger than the number of people using it on the daily.

Never had an instagram account in my life 💯🐒

I don't like a lot of photos on IG even if I think they're good.

I often notice that I forget the like option 😅

I mean, I like them, but I don't actually tap on the like button for some reason, it's weird haha

I'm like this now on YouTube. I go to 'upvote' a video and think .. 'ahh.. they're not going to get any money from this' haha.

I'm the same: "You, Sir, have one of my "scarce" upvotes for making such an excellent video."

That is sad when you really really like someones work and wish to support it.
