Visiting my mom and cooking for her with Bianca and looking at 20 year old me on the wall.

in #life6 years ago (edited)

My mom is recovering well from her operation but she has to take it slow and is not allowed to carry anything.

When I went there today with Bianca to cook for her she asked me to get groceries from the store with her and she asked Bianca if she please could vacuum-clean the house.

Very efficient thinking. It's how I know my mom.

She wanted me to cook a meal she has seen me make in a blog before.

Garlic Shrimp with Pasta.

Bianca and I happily fulfilled all the requests.

My mom lives in Rotterdam and the supermarket is not far. We walked there. It's good to see her on her feet again.

She quickly filled the basket in the supermarket with stuff and I put everything in two bags and carried it home and up the stairs for her.

It was then time to cook. The recipe is on the other blog post. This version was slightly better because I bought cream this time instead of Crème fraîche. It just works better.

Bianca set the table and we ate. My mom had two whole plates so I guess that's a good sign. Well, it is for me. When I have no appetite I usually know something is wrong.

My mom has a picture of me, my brother and sister printed on canvas in her hallway. I was looking at it today and realized that I don't recognize that boy anymore.

I have changed so much.

I'm around 23 years old in that picture.

I have been thinking a lot about an idea Eric Vance Walton proposed about writing a letter to 20 years old me.

I like the idea but it's not flowing in my mind yet. (Maybe I just have too much to say to him.)

I just wait until it does. I never force these things.

For now, I'm very happy mom is ok and she is slowly getting better.
