The Efteling, who didnt grow up going to this amusementpark?

in #life6 years ago (edited)

Being back home for a bit has HUGE benefits sometimes:

I get to spend time with the family!

And what better way to bond with my favorite two year old than going to an all time classic amusement park here in the region.

Every Dutchy will know this entrance. The Efteling is what they call a 'World of Wonders'. It is an amusementpark in the region of Tilburg/ Kaatsheuvel and it is suitable for young and old. Today our focus was on the 2 year old, and what an enjoyable day she had!

History

The Efteling opened in 1952 and most of the designs of the original fairy tails were made by Anton Pieck. Up until now the amusentpark is still trying to keep all of the new rides/shows/design in his original style and I must admit that they are doing a pretty good job in that.

A part or the park that we all saw as kids from inside and out was het 'Sprookjesbos' (literally translated as fairy tale forest). Here all the original fairytails from Little Red Riding Hood, to Sleeping Beauty to Pinokkio.

All of these fairy tales are connected with nice green walking paths and these big mushrooms where music comes out. I still have photos of myself from when I was a kid being glued to these mushrooms trying to figure out where the music came from. And today the little one also did exacty the same thing. A generation later, but nothing has changed ;)

Longneck

Also longneck with his actually moving neck was something the little one was still talking about hours later, so I guess it was very impressing for her.

The only question is then, was Longneck impressive for her? Or the little duckies swimming next to it ;)

No Rollercoasters for us today!

The Efteling has also has an impressive amount of rollercoasters for the thrillseekers. But since the focus today was on the little one rollercoasters were not really an option. (Which I honestly do not mind because I am chickensh*t in those things). But even the rollercoasters have style, this is the entrance of one of the coasters called Vogelrock, (translated Birdrock)

Also this swinging ship is a classic one in the park. I guess the ship would be enough to make me vomit already, but luckily I could skip these without feeling any shame for that :)

There was a lot of maintenance going on in the park so this ship was also not working. I guess they are getting ready for summer season for when it really gets busy.

Carnival Festival

With its icons 'Jokie and Jet' this is one of the attractions that most people will remember forever. It has a very 'its a small world' from Disney setting, but most of all a tune that you will dream about for the next couple of days.

This was a totally new way of experiencing the Efteling for me

Yes, I havent been here in years. (and with years I mean like 10+ or so), and also my previous visits were so so different. Those visits were not focussed on kiddy stuff, but visiting rides like the Pirana waterrafts and the Tobbogan Bobslee. This visit gave the whole Efteling a new dimension again, and I truly understand again why it is called the 'World of Wonders'

And the little one??

She was smiling all day and was fast asleep on the way home :)

Looks exciting.

It really was a fantastic day! If you ever have the chance of being in the neighborhood, please do visit and you will not regret it ;)

Agreed, I totally would not regret it, Karinx. Beautiful for sure. I will have to.

How nice @karinxxl :) I love this park, it is very classy. I like that boat, I could probably get a ride there, but that's probably the furthest I could go. No roller-coasters for me either. Watch only. "chicken-ish" like you, he he.

hehe exactly. Let me sit on the side and let the other ones enjoy in those kinds of vomit rides :D

But apart from those things there is so much more to do in this park, and that is what makes it totally great, even for chicken people like us ;)

I am glad that they are trying to keep to the original design of the park. There was one along the same lines, where I grew up. But over the years they tried to update it and it started to lose people because it was no longer the park that they remember. The ultimate insult was when the closed it to make a water park thinking they would attract more people. The people went to the nearby lake instead and the park lost money and closed.

Yeah exactly, most likely the money came lurking around the corner and they forget its original concept.

No totally not the deal here, also the rides that they keep buiding extra on it. One year they build a rollercoaster and the next one again they make a family show. This park really gets how to be sustainable and you can even bring your own food and so (not as in disney where you are surrended to their burgers and snacks)

It was a trip down memory lane for me and I truly hope the little one also has these warm memories of it now :)

She will. She had fun and she was with people that she loves so it is a positive experience all around.

Enjoyed the fascinating images.

Namaste, JaiChai

And this was not even half of it, because I kept with mostly the family rides :)

This place is so diverse and cool to go to, if you ever have the chance, please do so

Awww! That is soooo sweet that she enjoyed herself and you had fun reliving your childhood for a moment.
I am totally with you - I don’t do rollercoasters at all. I will let everyone else go while I watch from the comfort of the ground - lol!
Great post!!

Same here. i dont mind sitting on the side when everybody enjoyes the rollercoasters. But today didnt need that, there is so much kiddy stuff to do there!

This looks super fun, I particularly like longneck and I can see why he was the talk of the town.

There is so much cool stuff to see there. If you ever have a chance of being in the neighborhood, do go there!

Just one of many reasons I'd like to visit the Netherlands. A lot of people I respect work at Delft TU.

They engineer in you is curious :)

Well, there should be some way or another possible to pay the TU Delft a visit I presume? Would that also be the space department then you would like to visit?

Actually, it's the wastewater treatment people whose work I'm most familiar with. I wouldn't turn down a tour of the space dept. though.

TA-tata TA-tata TA-TA-TA.....

Precies!! Ik werd er vanochtend nog mee wakker in mn hoofd zelfs :))
