What the fuck? It was not even midday!? How could my phone be almost dead? Weren't there laws against this kind of thing?
Annoyingly, I hadn't even used it much.
Well, apart from a bit of steeming on the train but hey. That was only twenty minutes.
What the fuck was the world coming to?
Ah well, I ferreted about in my bag for my emergency charger.
It wasn't there!?
I felt a squirmy cold hand figuratively push it's way inside me via my Ptolemy's Gate and squeeze my belly from the inside.
What would I do if I ran out of juice!? What if someone tried to phone?! What if the good lady wanted me to buy milk on the way home? What if I received an email from a Nigerian prince offering me a huge sum of cash? What if a whale offered me a year of giant wet whale votes in return for a furtive Skype hand job?
I mean, a man's gotta eat.
I looked at the desks around me, someone was bound to have a charger. I could borrow it and live happily ever after.
Hey, has anyone got a USB C charger?
I asked of the murky faced dungeon dwellers I shared an office with.
I was met with a sea of blank faces and shakes of the head.

Murmured a conspiratorial voice behind me.
I turned. There, smiling in a way that reminded me of yellowing beef fat was one of the Business Analysts, Johnson.
He was Welsh which meant I had to fight the urge to pick him up and wipe my arse with him.
Aye, my phone is nearly dead.
I replied tersely.
Big Steve might be able to help you out. You could ask him?
He leaned closer and spoke in an even more conspiratorial whisper.
I heard he has a 'Fast charger'...
He winked.
The icy hand within me relaxed it's hold on my gizzards.

I swiftly set off to see Big Steve. He didn't sit far from me.
He was on the phone speaking in a low voice. I stood beside his desk hopping from foot to foot trying desperately not to look desperate.
Big Steve ended his call with a casual sneer then turned to me.
Whatcha need, man?
I felt a wave of relief as my eyes crept past him to his desk where I could see a multitude of phone chargers sitting doing nothing.
I hear you've got a USB C charger?
I asked.
Big Steve grinned.
Maybe....
I need it man, I need a charge... Is it a fast charger?
He smirked.
I got all kind of chargers mate...
He waved a hand at the chargers I had spied on arrival at his desk.
But... What's in it for me?
He said picking disinterestedly at a scab on his chin.
I shook and trembled with the need.
Please man. I just need a charge. Just one charge, man. Please?
Big Steve clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
Alright then. First time is free, beehotch. Next time?... Hahahaha. We'll see.
I switched my phone off and passed it over.
He plugged it in.
Come back in half an hour and remember... First time is free. Next time...
He made a weird tutting noise.
I just need this one charge man... There won't be a next time?
Steve looked at the Samsung logo on my phone.
Yeah, that's what they all say mate. That's what they all say...
However did we live before mobiles!? I'd be stocking up on chargers and power banks from now on. I don't trust that Steve not to come for a pound of flesh, next time...

I'm proud to say, I have not one, but two fast chargers at my desk. Both of which have a 2 meter cord.
But ... unlike Steve, I will lend them out to folks. They don't have to leave their devices at my desk. :-)
I do, occasionally, need to remind them with a baseball bat to kindly return the merchandise when they are finished.
I was a bit narked that he wouldn't let me take one away, he had about 5!!
I usually have one but I put it in my bag and now I am buggered if I can think where it is. I hope it's not been nicked!

I always have a power bank with me and just never forget it. Just leave a spare one in your work bag.I know you office types have a work bag so you can carry your lunch and look important. I would have told the knob no thanks and gone a bought one. Where is the team spirit?

Yep. I don't go anywhere without mine and normally get a good four or five charges out of it. My phones battery doesn't last long and I am reluctant to change it as I am comfortable with what it does.It took me long enough to change my Nokia 3310 so this has at least another 10 years to go.

Actually it wasn't that long ago. I only got it replaced when one of the speakers wasn't working. I have the Samsung Edge now which wasn't popular because of the fear of cracking the edged glass.I have been offered a fair amount for it as they are a sought after phone now.
They are indeed. I like Samsung phones, I always have. The camera and general everything trends to be spot on!
The only phone I will consider next is a Sirin labs phone that has a crypto cold storage wallet built in.
The only cold walleti will trust is my good old trezor. I wouldn't like carrying my cold wallet about with me!

I used to keep a cable at work and usually travel with a brick of a double USB charger - essential stuff when you have an ancient phone!
Them were the days eh! Hopefully it won't be long before you are carrying all that shit again and pulling in the buckeroons!

this particular addict's powerbank lives in the edc and occasionally vacations on the tower to charge, as I am frequently a hotspot and play Ingressmon it's as essential as the first aid kit XD
I have ordered another! I do have one but I was using it to charge my phone whilst streaming game of thrones to my TV the night before and left it at home. Nightmare!
I have been cutting down my online time, it was getting a bit mental, lol!
While you "hot desk" at work, is there someplace you could acquire and leave a spare charger at work safely?
