Be Wary of SMT Presales
Hey Friends!
So, the SMTocalypse is upon us! At least the pre-sale part of it.
Soon you are going to start seeing ads for SMT ICO pre-sales everywhere. The first one I have come across is Jerry Banfield and his plea for pre-sale purchasers to "join in his collective vision" (or translated into normal person terms, "Buy him his second yacht".
I can't tell you the irony of reading about how Jerry Banfield, who owns one of the most profitable bid bots, is talking about how he wants to spearhead the fight against bid bots. Like, wut da fuq?
I am basically sharing this for any newbie who has stars in their eyes and wants to believe that there is someone with a lot of money and power on here who wants to help them.
I mean, there are plenty of people on here like that. There are dozens of wonderful, helpful, kind, curating whales on here.
Jerry Banfield is not one of them.
Everything he has done so far on here has been to build himself a huge empire for himself. So, excuse me if I have a hard time swallowing this "I want everyone on here to have money and be successful" pill. Because it seems more to me like a Ponzi Scheme, or for the sake of 2018, a Banfield Scheme.
Hate on me if you'd like, but I have never used a bidbot, and I have tried to actually support creators in this community without them having to pay me for it.
All I ask is that you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be judicious about which ICOs/SMTs to invest in. Don't be deceived in thinking that because Steemit is a fairly safe place, that everyone on here is safe too. I can see these SMTs being as disastrous for some as they are beneficial for others.
Just. Be. Careful. Be Wary. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
I love you all and I actually do want everyone to be successful.

Yeah, I am soooo skeptical about SMT's. I don't fully understand them, I don't think anyone does, and I just smell scams everywhere!

You're absolutely right. The big thing being waved around is that you will make money on steemit and the other projects, and yes this is true, but you aren't going to get rich quick, so to speak. However too many people I see talking about it or moving their stuff over to it DO have stars in their eyes.
I would not quit my day job just yet...
My experience has been that you have to GRIND your way to get much. There are those lucky ones who strike a unique nerve with people, and they have that one hit wonder post, but it's kinda like metal detecting. Every now and then you get a lucky winner, but most of the rest of us dig lots of pull-tabs :) To look on any video platform, you'd think you hit treasure every time you plant the shovel in the ground, but you're seeing the lucky ones only. Kinda how it feels with some of the hype being pumped onto other platforms. It almost ALL comes from dedication and work. And then.... you may get lucky and get upvotes to the moon and back. Or the right whale comes along.
The other statement you made about bots is something I concurr with as well. There's something kinda scammy about using bots for many different things. It doesn't feel honest to me either in many ways. It hurts the little guys trying to make it on the up and square.

Well the real money on Steem is having a big investment to put in, getting it in right now when Steem is down now, and being active.
I think that's how Steem investors are getting burned. They don't seem to understand that yes, Steem is like other crypto in that it might go up and make people money, but there is SO MUCH money to be made in investing and interacting. Even just upvoting your own activity daily can be a HUGE money maker while you're waiting for the price of Steem to go up. I don't think investors quite understand how to handle Steem investment yet.
I think that the SMTs are going to fuck shit up for a while, but that it is a great idea outside of the Steemosphere. I think it is going to be a full blown disaster on the Steem network though. Just as above, you can see people already taking advantage...

When was the last time you saw Jerry in the trending tab?
Let me give you a hint - it was the last time he was outside the top20 witness group.
That's right while he was in the top20 he was quiet, and now he's not, he's out there on the trending page trying to gain supporters again.
BTW: He's getting hit hard in the downvotes.
When the SMT's are released it's going to be an ICO shit-storm. Mark my words.
And not in a good way.

@bethwjeatcraft i am wary of most things here on steemit because it is still very new. For example Steem Monsters. It may be something great or it may not be. I will wait for it to go live before I make any decision about buying the cards. As for Jerry Banfield, he is going to keep doing what he does LOL! I will just be sure to stay away from it. Once again another great post Beth.
