Guitar Improvisation - Soloing over minor 7th chords // Long Funky Jam.
Hello everyone !
Today I want to share an improvisation over a cool backing track I found from guitar player Tom Quayle, it has a cool progression al involving minor 7th chords but having a little twist in the end as they descend chromatically. In this particular progression I used only 1 formula.
Dorian: 1, 2, b3, 4, 5, 6, b7.
Even if the formula comes from the dorian mode I don't really play in a scalar way as for me it eludes melodic development so I only think of the formula as a note template in which to find melodies. Also I heavily rely on arpeggios and the all time friendly minor pentatonic as I find them to hold stronger melodic statements which you can develop later on.
The minor pentatonic formula is:
1 , b3 , 4 , 5 , b7.
And a minor 7th arpeggio:
1, b3 , 5 , b7.
Even though the note choices are more limited in this case you can still hold an improvisation and develop it by focusing on different target notes on each chord. Chord by chord playing is always the best option in my opinion.
I hope you like it:
