7-Day Wayback Music Challenge: Day 6: Pearl Jam ~ Black

Sorry I have missed the last few days of this challenge. I have been pretty sick and unable to post daily like normal. It was a lot of work to get this one out. I hope to wrap this contest up tomorrow. Here is today's pick.

Pearl Jam ~ Black

This song was introduced to me by one of my favorite friends in high school Chris. It was a time when I use to bike to school every day. I would leave my house and bike to Chirs's house and off to school we would go. It was about 9 miles to Chirs's house so I had to have some toons between locations to jam to.

Chris was from Washington so his music was mostly Seatle Grunge bands. He loaned me Pearl Jam's Ten and I fell in instant love with this song. This is one of those songs that it doesn't matter what type of mood I am in I can throw this song in and get lost to it. It falls in the top 10 of all time in my music list. It is my favorite song to play pool to when the joint has a jukebox. It fits any occasion and has a lot of meaning for me as well as meaning in the song itself.

Enjoy!

Hey, oh
Sheets of empty canvas
Untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me
As her body once did
All five horizons
Revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed
Has taken a turn
Oh and all I taught her was everything
Oh I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands
Chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh the pictures have
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by
Some kids at play
I can feel their laughter
So why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin
Round my head
I'm spinning
Oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can, drop away
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
All the pictures had
All been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad
Turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see
All that I am
All I'll be
Yeah
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life
I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky
But why
Why
Why can't it be
Why can't it be mine

Wow Pearl Jam ... this is also my favorite ...
Especially the "Last Kiss" song...
Indeed Pearl pearl songs are generally fun to be enjoyed in all moods and in all occasions...

Hope you will feel better soon, dear my friend @erodedthoughts ... keep up the spirit...hope your day will always be fun there...always support you...☕🤗❤

Last Kiss is awesome too. My second favorite song by them is Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. Look that one up if you love Last Kiss.

I pray that health finds your body and good tidings to your soul old friend :)

I just need to get to a point of mobility. I can deal with some pain but pain to the point where I can barely get up and live sucks.

I speak healing old friend... 11 special souls need you smiling :)

Indeed they do. That is the only reason I am toughing it out and doing the whole stupid doctor thing.

"Black" -in my opinion- is one of the best songs of Pearl Jam. "Alive" and "Jeremy" were the most succesful singles from "Ten" but there were great songs that didn't go mainstream like "Black", "Once" or "Deep". I remember a Pearl Jam concert at Pinkpop Festival that was broadcasted in our national TV. Eddie Vedder was in those crazy days, full of energy. All changed after Kurt Cobain's dead, I think he noticed he had done crazy thinks (climbing on stage, jumping to the audience...) and had to stop putting his live in risk. Anyway Pearl Jam are still one of the biggest bands in the earth, the three times have seen them have been just awesome.

Agreed, any time a good song get's on the radio there is normally some hidden gems which never see the light of day. I honestly don't dislike a single track on this album so they are all winners in my book.

"Ten" is in my TOP 10 albums of all time. I love all the songs of the album. I remember I bought the vinyl the same day that I bought Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger" so maybe the best shopping day of my life!

I never got into Soundgarden but always did like Temple of the Dog, my friend always found that extremely strange, I guess it is.

Soundgarden is not easy to get into, it's heavier than most of the grunge bands. Actually, the grunge tag was more about the way of life or the lyrics than about the music and Soundgarden had some roots on bands like Black Sabbath while Pearl Jam had the roots in more classic rock bands, and Nirvana in punk bands. I never got into Nirvana, just liked some songs.
For me, the Temple Of The Dog album is the definition of the 90s, the perfect union and an unbeatable album.

I just never cared for Cornell's voice. It was like nails on a chalkboard to my ears, lol. Temple of the Dog was okay since he wasn't the solo singer, lol.

Hope you feel better, man.
