7-Day Wayback Music Challenge: Day 7 ~ Violent Femmes - American Music (83)

Violent Femmes are a band that I can always throw in and have a rush of energy to get off my ass and move. I am sure they are one of those bands people either love or hate. This song came out in 1983 while I was just a wee lad and I did not discover it until the Why Do Birds Sing album in 1991.

I was at a school dance and this was the song that came on, as the girl I wanted to date, asked me if I would dance with her. I almost asked her the song before which was the Cure's Lullaby but I did not have the nerve. It is a fun little song which get's very fast at the end and made dancing slowly to the song awkward for the both of us. I like the rest of the album much better but this is the song tied to this memory and is how it made day seven for this contest.

Do you like American music
I like American music
Don't you like American music baby
I want you to hold me
I want your arms around me
I want you to hold me baby
Did you do too many drugs
I did too many drugs
Did you do too many drugs too baby
You were born too late
I was born too soon
But every time I look at that ugly moon
It reminds me of you
It reminds me of you ooh ooh ooh
I need a date to the prom
Would you like to come along
But nobody would go to the prom with me baby
They didn't like American music
They never heard American music
They didn't know the music was in my soul baby
You were born too soon
I was born too late
But every time I look at that ugly lake
It reminds me of me
It reminds me of me
Do you like American music
We like American music
I like American music baby
Do you like American music
We like all kinds of music
But I like American music best
Baby you were born too late
And I was born too late
But every time I look at that ugly lake
It reminds me of me
It reminds me of me
Do you like American music
It reminds me of me
Do you like American music

Whhaaaaatt! The Violent Femmes were a huge part of my teen years ok, and adult years haha! Oh man! Add It Up on a sunny day driving with my steering wheel as my drum is my jam! Ahhh gotta go listen to them now! Thanks for the throwback!

They do have a lot of great driving songs. I listened to them much more before than in the past years but they always bring a smile to my face. Timeless classics.

Lol this may be your lucky song @erodedthoughts

lol, never looked at it like that......

Violent Femmes...Blister in the Sun. One of my all time favorites! It really is "get up and go" kind of music. I was in first year University when I heard it, and it's been a staple on my playlist ever since :) Thanks for the memories :)

And memories of high school dances! Makes me smile...and cringe :)

I went to a Catholic elementary school, and by Grade 8, we 13 year olds were allowed a school dance. I have not-so-fond memories of the teachers, with yard sticks, shoving them between boy's and girl's bodies during slow dances, to create an acceptable distance between them.

Apparently there was a fear of pregnancy haha

Thanks for making me smile !
