New Ground Shots Podcast! With craftsperson, designer and artist Christiana Hedlund

Hey Steem folk! I've missed you.

I put a new podcast episode out last week- after about a month of working on my camper at my friend's medicinal herb farm- not a bad place to be stuck. And my friend's farm is in a banana belt zone so to speak- they still have not gotten a frost and its mid January! Yesterday we were digging Ashwagandha and weeding Meadowsweet...

I also hit the wilderness for awhile at my friend's homestead deep in the Trinity Alps area of northern California. I already have upload speed troubles with my computer- but that valley was ridiculous! I'm currently back in civ trying to do maintenance on my computer and upload as many of my backlog of interviews as possible. I really enjoyed being out there though away from the hubbub of the world. I'm really excited about some of the interviews I've been doing lately, and really extra excited about getting them out there this year. I hope I can catch up on episodes- i have a backlog of nearly 15 at this point waiting. I'm house sitting next week and I hope to get tons of edits done.

I interviewed Christie back when I was visited Oregon this summer. Yes, it's taken me that long to get it out- I still have 3 more to publish from August-September in Oregon!

I met Christie when I did a wilderness style walking artist residency through the organization Signal Fire- out of Portland, Oregon. I interviewed another alumni for the podcast, Tilke Elkins, and Ryan Pierce, one of the founders. So, if you have listened to those, you probably will learn even more from my talk with Christie.

Christie and I talk about color, about social politics, about interior design, about the influence of space, about being in the woods, about the importance of craft and making things and curation. As if we don't know anything about curation on here.. well, this is a different (but not unrelatable!) form of curation.

In the next few months, I plan on releasing an interview with the artist Jill Mahanna who is an abstract landscape painter and herbalist, an interview with the political artist Aimee Joyaux, the basketweaver Aganaq- who I've posted some pictures of on here before, another talk with Turtle T. Turtleton on meadmaking, an interview with activist Lindsey Leach on working with urban youth and trauma, the hide tanner Woniya, the elder hobo Will, and more! Tomorrow I am interviewing the partner of the late Dale Pendell, the author of the Pharmako book series on Poison Plants.... I'm sure many of you have heard of him. He died a year ago- I met him and Laura once when I worked at a botanical sanctuary. I regret not meeting up with him when I had the chance. I hope to talk to Laura about his work. I'm a little nervous. She is really approachable, but he's a big deal! He was also really approachable when I met him.
