Photo: Crowberries (Empetrum nigrum)

Have you ever tasted crowberries (Empetrum nigrum)? Just like the cloudberries I wrote about a few days ago, the crowberries also grow up in the mountains in the northern hemisphere. These are not uncommon at all, but they are far from as nice as the cloudberries. The taste is actually pretty bitter, but they are nice for making beverages with, and crowberry wine is not that bad.

The good thing about them is that they are everywhere, and it's very quick and easy to fill a full bucket of these. So while it's not my favorite berry, the availability makes up for it

If you want to find these, then just head up to the nearest mountain in a coldish area in the northern hemisphere. They are very common, and it's likely that you will find it without any trouble. Just remember to look to the ground, because they will only reach something like 10-20 centimeters up from the ground, and can create huge mats that span for hundreds of meters.

Thanks for stopping by, and checking out my photo of the crowberries!

Amazing photography of Crowberries. I really loved your post @valth. Such an amazing and wonderful picture clicked by you. ☺

Thanks for sharing this post.

Interesting. It sure looks very similar to a blueberry. I think this is the first time I ever heard of it .

Blueberries are a bit bigger, and much more tasty ;) I don't think most people have heard of these, because they have a very niche use compared to the much sweeter fruits and berries we typically prefer to eat.

Crowberries... They are black, probably that's where they get their name from...
Are they good for making fruit jam???

Hmm, maybe! I haven't tried, but I think they might be a bit too bitter. Would be interesting to test out though!

I once ate strawberries, it tastes a bit sour. But this fruit I never saw it.
I like your photo, it is very clear and not blurry.
Have a good day @valth

Thank you. This is ten times more sour than a strawberry ;) Hehe

Hehehe
Yep, i think like that my friend

Wow, another berry species I never heard of before! They remind me of wild blueberries that can be found here in Czech forests. I published a post about our berries just two days ago too but only those that can be currently harvested in our countryside garden :)) Great close-up shot @valth!

Wild blueberries are nice! And they're a lot more tasty that the crowberries ;) It's been a bit too hot for the blueberry season where I live currently.

Unfrotunately the weather conditions of over part of the world doesn't support this sort of fruit. Heard this first time.
Is the black color of fruit is the reason of its name?
Have a nice time. Hopefully soon I will start my health care blog.
Thanks for sharing @valth

Yeah, it's only found in pretty northern places where it can get really cold. I think the name either has to do with its color, or because it gets eaten by birds such as crows. I'm not entirely sure :P

I'm looking forward to your healthcare blog! Have a nice time you too :)

seems awesome sir but I never see and eat crowberries before. em not living near mountains or a coldish area so surely whenever i visit i'll search for crowberries😍

It's no wonder that you haven't seen them before then ;) Hehe

Wow such a beauty in it but i never taste it before is it poison or not.

Thank you. It's not poisonous.
