RE: First cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus) of the year + meeting some ptarmigans in the mountain

in #nature6 years ago

Waooo... I have never had cloudberries... How do they taste???? ... And 30$ per kg is indeed steep.most fruits in my region cost around 0.2$ to 4$ per kg....
Its good to get such costly fruit for free, if you ask me...

Most fruit are also a lot cheaper here though. The thing about cloudberris is that you cannot grow it on a farm, but you must go pretty high up to the mountain to get them. And each plant can only make one fruit per year (they are the size of strawberries), so it takes a lot of effort to get a kg.

But they are really good. They taste kind of like cream made from milk honestly, but it's difficult to describe.
