Knitting Tails ...

in #needleworkmonday6 years ago (edited)

I'm happy to be back to #NeedleworkMonday. Now all the family members has recovered from cold after two weeks.

What I was working on over the weekend was ... knitting "Shippo" (it means tail in Japanese). The fur part is also knitted. I got to know there was "fur yarn" in Japan from @sumi's post last year and asked my mother to send one from Japan.

It is my old project from the time I was a guest researcher at an art university in Linz, Austria. Seven months ago I briefly wrote about the project on Steemit.

Shippo Interface /

Shippo

I think I'm now a bit Berlin high like runner's high after spending one day in the creative-crazy capital of Germany, Berlin (but sadly gentrified these days). Berlin made me start knitting tails again.

My daughter likes Shippo. She is happy to wear them and she also enjoys taking my Shippo and laughs when I say "Ouch!".

Still I have to think about how to attach a Shippo to clothes. A carabinera can be an option while it's not cheap and not appropriate to fragile fabric. Using ribbon to tie to waist or to a belt loop can be another option. I avoid pins and magnets as they are not safe for small kids.

Another crazy idea I have right now is to bring some, 10-20 Shippos to SteemFest3 in November and see how others react to it. It may facilitate people to interact each other saying "what's this?" "you have a nice shippo" "may I see your Shippo?" etc. I'm happy to promote Needlework Monday there for example attaching a small note about the community to Shippos if the community is OK about it :)

Nothing has been concretely decided yet but it might be fun to run a crowdfunding campaign on Fundition.io, a Steem based decentralized crowdfunding platform, to raise $100-200 for material and production. I was a volunteer translator of the platform (EN->JP) and curious to use it for something small for the first try.

Fundition.io - Decentralized Crowdfunding platform

That's my Needlework Monday and funny thoughts.

Other than Shippo I bought organic denim at my favorite Berlin fabric store Sibenblau. So I'm ready to sew my first jeans soon.

What a fun thing! I only know those tails from a children's game where you try to steal the other's tails!

I love the idea about doing a crowdfunding on fundition - I'm only "microplancton" but I would send a Steem or two. Every little thing counts ;) And distributing them there is a great way to show people that there's more to Steem than crypto / gaming /food / travel and to let them have some fun!

Regarding every little thing counts: that's why 10% of my post rewards go to @t-r-f which is a travel reimbursement fund for the SteemFest. I can't go but I can help others even if my 10% is just a drop in the ocean :)

Seems stealing tails is a popular game world wide. A Japanese steemit user @greenracoon mentioned about it too. I'm quite new to kids world and didn't know it. It's definitely fun for adults too :D

And nice that you support @t-r-f, which I also donated some recently. What a coincidence! @t-r-f is an interesting fund and way of using a crowdfunding platform. I've never seen other conferences do this. I didn't know I can donate X% of my post rewards. Next time I try this style :)

I think about using Fundition :) Your comment encouraged me a lot, @muscara!

Perhaps such a game is more popular in Japan due to the legendary kitsune? We don't have such a thing in European culture.

You can set beneficiaries + even a scheduled posting time if you use Steempeak.com for posting. I definitely prefer it to Steemit or Busy.

I must try Steempeak.com :) Thank you for mentioning it!
By the way it seems Partiko for smartphones are now popular in JP community.

That's such a fun idea, @akipponn !
So do you have a pattern for the tails ? I could make a couple to be sent from Wales :D

Happy to hear so. There is no pattern I just knit spontaneously seeing its size, color combination, texture ... I may make a note on Ravelry once I have confidence of being a Shippo meister :)

Ooo that would be a cool idea @akipponn, bringing these cute tails to Steemfest. I love the tails! Fluffly tails!

Thank you marblely. The fluffy one is made with fur yarn. I got to know it last year and really like to knit with it. I wish it will be easily available in Germany soon :)

I hope so too :) So furryly fluffy :D

tail?! hee hee :))) the tail on the first photo is gorgeous!

Ja sounds crazy but tails 😉 I like it’s fluffy part. Was also fund to knit the part and brush it in the end.

I am so glad to hear that everyone has recovered from their colds!

Those Shippos are sooooo Cute and Fun! I love the one you have already finished and I love the one you are currently working on with the dots!! Nice colors!!

I think making these and taking them to SteemFest is an Excellent idea!! Thank you for wanting to spread the word and promote our needlework community! I think everyone would get a kick out of playing around with these and admiring your lovely knit work.

I’m not too familiar with Fundition but I think it would be worth the shot. Let us know if you will persue this idea further and we can talk about what we can do as a community to help.

Also my niece has a tail similar to this that was connected by a piece of elastic that went around her waist. All she had to do was slip it on. So for cost purposes maybe something along elastic lines that could be easily adjusted to fit whoever wears it.

Please check out our Upcycle Challenge!

Thank you @needleworkmonday :) Your comment encourages me to start preparing shippo for the upcoming SteemFest3!

Great!! That’s Awesome!!!
