Sports Day At My School!!
To follow up yesterday's picnic, Friday was sports day at my school. Imagine it like track and field, except less formal and more fun! Most of the students at my school play a sport, wether it is football (soccer), baseball, basketball, or Jokgu (족구) (I'll explain in second).
Students train all throughout the year for this day to show each other up. That is where it is different from American track and field, students actually want to participate. Now, if they only wanted to participate in English class 😅 Do I need to make them play horse?
The Opening Events
The weather was perfect for the day, 10°C (50°F for Americans) and Sunny, couldn't ask for better conditions 😁 I got to school at my usual time and actually missed the opening because......coffee. I can't function without the stuff.
A scoreboard for the various sports and teams. Not sure if there were any prizes to be won or anything or if it was all just for pride of students.
Football
What is a sports day outside of the US without football?? Of course this is the centerpiece of the day. My students constantly ask me about pro football players and I just look at them like 😕 I have no idea kids,ask me about the UFC. Anyways, they rocked this event.
Jokgu
This is an intense sport, imagine it like soccer mixed with volleyball. This sport is based on the Philippines game Sepak takraw, which is like volleyball mixed with martial arts. I have always wanted to see Sepak takraw played professionally so this is the closest I can get 😀 I linked more information about both sports above and am providing some video from yesterday so you can see how it is played.
Jump Rope
This was jump rope but it was a team effort, one student goes in makes a jump. The next comes in, rinse and repeat. Team with the most jumps wins!
It reminded me of Monkey Beach's jump roping gimmick 😂 Almost jumped in myself.
100 Meter Dash
Lunch
The students got some pizza for lunch instead of the normal school food. Which caused some confusion cause I thought I would have pizza, which wouldn't be good. Also, I thought it was funny that they give students pizza and ice cream on sports day 😂
My Lunch
This was my lunch. Much healthier, the protein could be a little better but I can't complain much with pork belly
School Band
The school also has a kind of emphasis in music. So we have a school band that played some songs they learned. This is much better than what they usually play during the school day. They usually just jam to their own songs 😂

It was a whole day of sports for the students! I wasn't in any of the photos because I took them all haha
Damn thats awesome! When I go back to czech republic they also play a very similar game to jogku and they said it was invented in one of the slavic countries. I know most slavic countries are really good at it, but it's probably hard to trace where it was invented. Anyways I love playing it and even introduced it to the boy back home so we all go play once a week!

yeah who knows where it's truly invented. I find with some of that it may be hard to tell. Haha good on ya I'll fold instantly when I see some good food even when I'm trying to stay in shape lol.
