I interviewed Roger Ver on www.FreeSociety.com - The World's First Free Market based Country

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Hello fellow Steemians! Who's at Steemfest2? I'm still in Chiang Mai, Thailand and have an awesome interview for you today. Are you ready to experience life without a government ruling over you and forcing you to pay their bribe money? tired of being told that you need a permit or that your kids need a license to sell lemonade? Roger is building the answer...

Tune in as Roger and I discuss his latest project, www.FreeSociety.com.

Full Interview (video ~30min)

Roger Ver, Co-Founder of FreeSociety.com and Owner of Bitcoin.com, recently presented at the Nexus Conference in Aspen, Colorado and announced a new project called “Free Society”. Basically he and other founders and investors plan to purchase land from a sovereign state-owned country with the idea of building a “free society” based on libertarian principles. I knew that I had to get Roger back on Liberty Entrepreneurs to discuss this revolutionary idea.

Here's a preview from their website:

For many decades, mostly libertarians have been trying to create a new country by various methods that have ranged from unsuccessfully claiming an existing piece of land (Minerva, Liberland), to creating floating structures on the water (Seasteading). Unfortunately, none of these attempts have succeeded so far and have encountered substantial resistance from existing governments or were technically or financially too difficult. Our conclusion is that, to really gain sovereignty, the most efficient way is to negotiate with an existing government.

What are your selection criteria?

  • Proximity to existing economic powerhouses (US, Europe, Asia)
  • Accessibility by water
  • Located in a safe, conflict-free area
  • Stable existing government
  • Nations with a significant national debt
  • A flexible constitution that allows granting sovereignty
  • Acceptable minimum size for the land

Let's BUILD FREEDOM!!!

Sort:

Hi, I saw your link on an article of mine. Really enjoyed the interview. Unlike most people connected to BTC Roger seems like a genuinely great guy.

I've also had a dream of having a country free from politics and full of great minds since I was barely in middle school. Guess most of us free thinkers have dreamed about this. I know some of my friends have thought of the same. But when I was thinking of it, there was a difference.

Let's just say you go to a bad neighborhood wearing jewelry and best kinds of cloths bearing best kind of gadgets with all the people you love and connect with. Let me tell you the brutal truth. You going to get fucked both literally and figuratively. There are no work arounds. This is going to happen. There is no point of freedom and justice unless you can enforce it.

Why do you think crypto revolution survived the governments? Simply because you can't shut down cryptos. But a tiny country of good intelligent people who don't spend their lives screwing over and taking over each other in violent acts can be and eventually will be shut down. Period.

When I imagined my liberty land when I was a kid, I imagined it along with the most powerful weapons of mass destruction developed by the smartest people on Earth. Bad things that can happen will happen and without deterrents you have no real security.

are you saying that freedom doesn't have a chance?

Freedom needs to be preserved. If you are not an aggressor, it doesn't save or protect you from aggression. Freedom only has a chance if it is enforced. This can be done in two ways:
#1 keeping it to a closed set of good actors
#2 Getting rid of bad actors as fast and efficiently as possible.

Take steemit for an example. Why is it the best large online community on this planet?

#1 We don't have much of SJW snowflakes, idiots, liberals, socialists, abusers, feminazis etc. The people within the community are mostly good, inteligent, productive people.

#2 Bad actors get flagged. They are stripped of rewards. They get warnings from the community. The steemit community is hostile to bad actors. up vote beggars and scammers don't go far in steemit.

Without both of these elements freedom has no chance. Roger Ver has taken care of #1. It'll be a great community. But how are they going to keep the effects of bad actors out. What if someone get aggressive on the NAP based community? You can't just be the good guys. You also need to make sure bad guys bite the dust or at least made powerless.

Great interview but I'd like you to add chapters next time, would that be possible? : ) It makes the engagement better. Also take a look at the subtitles / transcript, a few times I didn't know Roger Ver was referring to.

So something like this
Other topics covered include:

  1. What is “Free Society” and how did you get the idea? How is it similar/different than Seasteading or Liberland?
  2. What are the important problems that need to be solved for this experiment to work and be successful?
  3. How do see this society progressing from literally nothing into a free market-based, wealthy society?
  4. Let’s compare how more opportunities are available now than ever because of cryptocurrencies vs relying on the State’s fiat money and/or precious metals as possible monies.
  5. How will things be “regulated” and how will licensing work?
  6. Walk us through an example of a digital nomad coming to Free Society to live and work. Visas/passports? Renting an apartment?

But with the time markers mm:ss or links to YouTube : )

great feedback. This would be much more listener friendly for sure.

Resteemed! Stack that BCH.

stack that BCH! Thx amigo. Enjoy Lisbon.

Great interview. I have my bags packed and I'm ready to go!

hell yeah! See u there. What biz can u build? We have a lot to accomplish to make this thing work.

Well perhaps I'm a tad long in the tooth now but I have had many successful businesses in my long life so maybe still have something to contribute.

ohhhh tell me about them! What do u think you could offer such a Free Society? I have a Virtual Assistant biz that helps entrepreneur's hire affordable, experienced staff. Growing demand...

Without making the reply too lengthy: At 19, with my brother, I started what became the country's largest legal services business; a well-known sandwich bar later sold to the Insomnia chain and a hugely successful vacation rentals business which we moved online in 2000. We got into bitcoin in 2012.
I have no idea yet what I could offer a Free Society. My success in the past has been finding and filling a gap in the market. What I do have is considerable experience of the positive results of enterprises run essentially on a rules but no rulers basis, a throwback as I am to the anarcho-punk movement of the 70s.

That's a huge and brilliant idea, similar to my idea of building a decentralized smart city from scratch on 200 hectares land. I will download and take time to listen to the interview.

So you are going to create a free society by buying a bunch of land from a violent government? People who are rich already have freedom to do whatever they please. This is only different from paying taxes in that you are paying a lump sum up front instead of paying every year. There is no guarantee that you will be left alone from violent governments. I do agree that you should use your wealth to promote your principles so maybe it is a good thing and I'm sure it would be nice for the rich people that get the privilege of living there.

did you hear when Roger said that anyone would be allowed to move there?
