Their detention is the equivalent to jail AND the courts ruled they can only be housed together for 20 days. That's why Trump said his change of mind makes little difference if congress doesn't act.

Illegally crossing the border is a crime and criminals don't get treated the same as undetained people.

Like Trump said, you don't want to be separated from your family, don't come here illegally, period.

If you are looking for assylum, then you must come through a check point and ask, otherwise they have no rights.

You still didn't answer the question. Do you think children should be separated from their families? You just said they can stay together for 20 days but that wasn't happening before. These are not just 12 year olds but todlers and babies being taken away.

Those seeking asylum are often turned away because of the wait to get into ports of entry.

Are you really saying that people have no rights and the US can do whatever they want because they crossed the border illegally? Think about what you are saying. You are really drinking the koolaid.

In trump's first 15 months of office they caught and released 100,000 people. They did not prosecute them and they did separate children. Obama had the same policy. He prosecuted gang members, violent crime offenders, repeat offenders, and those thought to be smuggling children or using other peoples kids. He went after the bad guys. Trump is prosecuting everyone which is tieing up the court system, costing us billions, and creating more gang members by detaining kids separately which tramatizes them.

Guess what? Before the new policy the entire family was turned and away and deported. Now just the parents are while the kids stay here. The parents know they have a chance to get their chidren in the country semi legally. If they relatives the childrn probably will go to stay with them. The new policies aren't stopping the flow of illegals.

This conversation went in the direction you took it. I had to set you straight before tackling the issues. Your incorrect beliefs took this in circles. Because of your ignorance about the reality, you create many Strawmen Arguments. Take the blame instead of trying to pass it on.

Yes, they need to be separated. Do we need to waste money? No, but the gov. always wastes our money anyway. If the Dems possessed any level of critical thought, they would fund Trumps wall and many of these issues decrease exponentially.

I was seperated from my mom as a child and raised by the state and I am not a gang member. Being in a gang is a choice. Also, my little brother is half Latino, so I have a connection, not a disconnect with the Latin American Culture. My brother agrees with Trump as well.

You sound like an overly emotional little baby. Suck it up and ask Costa Rica to take them in, then the trip wouldnt be so harsh...

Better yet, why don't you go to their country and show them how to make a life for themselves? Millions do just fine and the ones coming here are simply skilless by choice.

I was waiting for the name calling to come into play lol. You think I sound emotional because I don't agree with you and try to get a straight answer?

So you agree it is a complete waste of money to separate them. But your argument is that is okay because we always waste money? I thought Trump was supposed to reduce spending, not increase it.

Guess what? Most Republicans in Congress do not support a wall either! https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2017/09/20/trump-border-wall-survey-congress-republicans-billions/640196001/ More useless spending that will do not good. People will find a way in. Not to mention most of the land where he wants to put his wall is private. He cannot simply take that land and build a wall there without a huge fight. The governement has already been trying to take it in some cases to build more fencing but one case alone was tied up in court for 7 years. Blaming the Democrats is crazy. On another note there are many republicans who don't support his child separation policy either.

I don't remember ever saying every single child who gets separated becomes a gang member, but it sure is more likely. http://www.amarillo.com/article/20120624/NEWS/306249799 The statistics are staggering for children in foster care.

The average wage in Mexico is $5 a day. You call that doing just fine? You call them skilless and criminals for trying to make a better life for their families so they don't have to live on dirt floors and worry about being killed everyday by drug lords? I guess they could go through the immigration system nd wait 5 to 15 years to get into the country if they have relatives already here.

I agree it is a crime, I am not saying it is right to come here illegally. However, I do not blame them for trying. I also see no point in separating children from their families when there is no need to except to try and look "tough". The policiy is creating more problems than it is helping, it is costing us billions, it is clogging up the court system which means real criminals may get overlooked.

Good policy.

If you make a claim, please provide evidence to back it up.

Why won't the wall work?

Not having a wall surely isnt working. As for separating families, I really don't care either way.

Name calling? Likening your demeaner and summarized musings to a whining baby is a example, not an ad hominem.

Mentioning Mexico's average wage is a Strawman Argument( most of your nonpoints are). Their cost of living and prices of products are cheaper, which balances that all out. You cannot compare Mexico's economy to America's in this way, so your point is moot.

Build a wall and there will be exponentially less illegal border crossings to clog up our justice system.

Rather than complaining about one practice that has little to do with the actual problem, why dont you offer a solution?

What is the solution? Please have one, or our conversation and your blog was just a waste of time.

Actually, the number of illegal immigrants from Mexico has decreased in the last decade. The increase in illegal immigrants has come from Honduras and Guatemala as well as other Central American countries with major political and economic problems. I don't really see it as a huge problem. Peopel will always try to get into the US when we have a better life for people. That is how the world has always worked. people travel thousands of miles from Central America risking their lives in Mexico. A wall is not going to stop them, especially when Trump admits the wall will not cover the entire border.

I already gave a few reasons why the wall won't work and you ignored them like the fact congress does not want to approve it including the Republicans. And the fact it would take years, maybe decades to get all the land to build the wall. The wall is not a real or viable solution but nice try.

In fact there are more Mexicans leaving the US now than entering it. http://www.pewhispanic.org/2015/11/19/more-mexicans-leaving-than-coming-to-the-u-s/

So this whole thing is a big fabrication from Trump about how evil and bad the immigrants are and how they are overriding our country. So that he can build his wall and put his name on it. A wall which no one really wants or needs except for his core base because they think whatever he tells them to think. Like I said Koolaid
