1. Ivan Pavlov

Ivan Pavlov was an Russian physiologist who is known for his work on classical conditioning, a learning procedure about the biological potent stimulus paired with previously neutral stimulus.

He became the first Russian Nobel Laureate when he received the award for Physiology or Medicine category in 1904.

He was a Foreign Member of Royal Society of London.

A winner of Copley Medal, he was also a Foreign Member of Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.

2. Hillevi Rombin

Hillevi Rombin was a Swedish actress and beauty pageant winner.

She became the Miss Universe in 1955 after being Miss Sweden Universe the same year to be eligible for Miss Universe contest participation.

She became the first Miss Universe title holder to die in 1996 when she, her husband and a son died together as the plane they were traveling crashed.

She was part of movies like The Benny Goodman, Istanbul.

3. Ferid Murad

Ferid Murad is an American physician and pharmacologist who showed that nitroglycerin and related drugs works by releasing nitric oxide into the body.

He is a member of National Academy of Sciences and worked at various positions in universities like University of Virginia, Stanford University, University of Texas and George Washington University.

For the nitroglycerin to nitric oxide, he along with Robert F. Furchgott and Louis J. Ignarro were honoured with Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

He is also a winner of Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research.

4. Hicham El Guerrouj

Hicham El Guerrouj is a retired Moroccan middle distance runner and holds record in 1500 m and 2000 m events.

He also became first man after Paavo Nurmi to win gold medals at same Olympics in 1500 m and 5000 m events.

His Olympics medals includes gold in 1500 m and 5000 m in 2004 Athens Olympics and in the prior version in 2000 held at Sydney, he won a silver medal in 1500 m category.

Besides that, he has won 4 gold and 2 silver medals in World Championships.

He has been inducted into IAAF Hall of Fame in 2014.

5. Severo Ochoa

Severo Ochoa was an Spanish-American physician and biochemist who explored on glycolysis in heart muscle.

He worked as Research Associate at New York University and his other positions he worked thru his career are Assistant Professor, Professor of Biochemstry and Pahrmacology and Chairman of Department of Biochemistry.

His research works apart from glycolysis include research on protein synthesis and replication of RNA viruses.

For his research works, he along with Arthur Cornburg were honoured with Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1959.

he was also a winner of National Medal of Science and Paul Karrer Gold Medal.

I can honestly say I have never heard of any of these people, which makes this post even better because I learned something new about them.

Actually I do remember Pavlov, he did something on learning in dogs by ringing a bell and then feeding them. After multiple times every time he rang the bell the dogs would salivate expecting food - they had learned to associate the bell with food.
