Hello my friends! This post is gonna be a bit out of the ordinary for me, but bear with me. I still plan to focus on blogging about my outdoor adventures and have no intentions of flooding your feed with my crappy singing. I have always loved music and I play several instruments, but recently music has really taken the back burner. I've just got way to many passions... it's a great thing, but it's tough to prioritize. But recently I was inspired by @lyndsaybowes to pull out my old dusty guitar and play! Here I play 3 cover songs. First is "Farther on Down the Road" by Taj Majal. Second is "G.A.T.E./Upside Down" by Jack Johnson. And the third is "Ebin" by Sublime.

It felt so good. It makes me so happy to jam. I've got another musician friend who is supposed to come over later this week too, so now I'm gonna have to get him into a jam session! I can't wait.

But anyways... be sure to check out Lyndsays' awesome songs both here - https://steemit.com/openmic/@lyndsaybowes/steemit-open-mic-week-58-kathy-original-song

and here- https://steemit.com/dtube/@lyndsaybowes/5v4dgcc7

Feel free to comment and criticize, and until next time, thank you for listening, and enjoy the experience my friends! images.duckduckgo.jpg images.duckduckgo-2.jpg

How come you don't mention steemit in the video or in the description on youtube? Just curious. Well done.

Doing any talking just wasn't really in the plans when I recorded it I guess. But you are right I should mention Steemit in the description. *Edit coming soon. lol. Thank you. I appreciate your insight.

No way I'm playing for the camera. I don't care whar @lyndsaybowes says Lol.. kudos to you for putting it out there

Do it Dave!!!! C'mon! Don't be such wuss. What is there to be scared of really. Other peoples opinions? Thats just daily life. So get over it and have some fun already! images.duckduckgo.png

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think your singing is "crappy" at all. On the contrary, you are quite good! It also takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there like that.

I am a huge Sublime fan, so my favorite cover was "Ebin." That's also off of my favorite Sublime album.

I just discovered your blog and I like what you are doing. Upvoted and followed :)

Keep on rocking!

Thanks @contentking! Maybe the singing isn't nessisarrily crappy, but I could sure use a bit of practice. And the incredible response that I've gotten from this post is definitely encouraging me to do so. I'm also a huge Sublime fan. I'm glad you enjoyed me covering 'Ebin' Its a really fun song to play on guitar, but man those lyrics are tough to spit out. Especially that last verse. It took me a few tries to get that one right. Thanks a lot for following! images.duckduckgo.jpg images.duckduckgo-2.jpg

I think you definitely have the voice. A little refinement and you will definitely have it going on. You know what they say: Practice makes perfect!

I appreciate your encouraging words. I'm planning to try to play more regularly again. I'm gonna start keeping the guitar in the living room again instead of back in the closet.

Very good Derek!! Thanks for putting these songs out, you made each one your own, and I especially loved Ebin!! Such good memories there...

Thank you Lyndsay!! I'm so glad you inspired me to pull my guitar out again. Not only have I really been enjoying playing around on it, but this post somehow became the highest paid post I've ever had on Steemit! I still can't believe it. I thought it might only get a buck or so, but 50+... wow! And I also thought I might get some negative comments from people who would want me to just stick to my hiking blogs. But I've got nothing but positive feedback. So I guess I'll be singing on Steemit more here in the future! You are totally right about how when I do cover songs I usually kinda make it 'my own' or 'my style'. That's the way I think covers should be. It blends your personality with the song instead of just trying to make an exact replication. I think it makes it more authentic that way. Anyways, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the songs. And I can't wait to hear your next song!! o-MUSICAL-NOTES-570.jpg guitar.png

Wow! Ya no kidding. I went to bed and it was only a few bucks, I wake up and its somehow over 50!? I'm not even sure why or how yet... but I'm not complaining! lol. I honestly didn't think this post was gonna do much at all. My jaw is dropped right now. images.duckduckgo-1.png

Yes I know. Sorry about that. I did read the rules, but not until after I had already recorded the video and posted it on youtube. Day late and a dollar short kinda thing. lol. Thats why I didn't title it with the open mic title because I knew it wouldn't qualify. I hope it was still ok that I used the tag. I will be sure to do it all properly next time around. I will also try to play an original song next time. Thank you @luzcypher!

Nice one. What other instruments do you play?

Thanks @qsounds! The main instruments that I play besides guitar would be piano, drums/percussion (especially hand percussion), and the bass. But I also like to dabble with the ukelele, the banjo, the harmonica, and even the accordian! If you would like to hear some of my old original songs you can listen to them here - https://www.artopium.com/space20/purchasepage.cgi?ID=M6065

That are quite a few instruments, wow! Listening to the first track of the link you provided, now. Happy song! :) You should do a couple of (hand percussion recordings), can be really nice.

Great guitar and music track!

Thanks! Glad you dig it! images.duckduckgo.png o-MUSICAL-NOTES-570.jpg

Climbing mountains and singing on Steemit. You got huevos my friend! Anyone that covers Sublime is ok in my book.

Thanks dude. The Sublime one was tough, it took me a few tries to spit out the words right on that last verse. Even here I hardly got it, but it was good enough for me.
