My Costco BodyGlove Performer 11' Inflatable Paddleboard Just Arrived | Initial Impressions / Review

Hey guys, so I decided to pickup my first board, I've rented boards many times in the past but never owned. I was very hesitant on what to buy. Ideally I wanted a hard board, however after looking at having to get a roof rack which costs a couple hundred, then a paddleboard attachment for another $129 and having a big paddleboard on my roof driving through Chicago and/or on 94 to Michigan going 90mph decided against it.

I wound up opting for the BodyGlove 11' Inflatable from Costco. I'd seen some good review on it on Youtube, seems very sturdy, in one video a guy had it on 2 saw horses and was jumping on it, standing on it fishing, etc and it didn't flex at all. In most videos they quoted the price as like $899 but Costco currently has it for $399.

I wound up ordering it online as they only have hard boards in store, wound up being about $424 after taxes. It was supposed to arrive Friday but wound up arriving today a day early so only took like 2 or 3 days to ship to me from ordering.

I havn't actually ridden it yet, I'm heading to Lake Michigan this weekend and will edit this post after trying it out but I did take everything out, pump it up, etc.

Here's my initial impressions. Size wise, I suppose I should know 11' is pretty big but was surprised by how long it was as well as wide, not a bad thing just surprised. In the photo I put a can of soda on it for context. Inflating it wasn't hard but was WAY harder than some Youtubers made it sound. In one particular video a guy said it took him 45 seconds of pumping on dual pump mode to get it to take shape and another 2 minutes to fully inflate. It took me at least 10 minutes of pumping to get it inflated and I was inside, I imagine out in the sun on a hot day this would be a workout. Not terrible but harder than Youtubers made it seem.

It comes with a dry pouch for a cellphone, a 3 piece paddle, some inflatable guards for the fins, a leash, backpack, and pump with two settings one where it pumps on the up and down stroke and one where it pumps on just the downstroke.

I stood on it on my floor, I can see its pretty thick so I can see why some people maybe say it will take a bit of getting used to comming from a hardboard but overall thus far seems very sturdy and durable, was easy to pump up and easy to deflate and get back into the bag. So far happy with the purchase.

Again, I'm heading to Lake Michigan on Saturday so I'll update this review after using it.

Can you catch waves in the lake there ?

Hey buddy, yeah obviously not as good as ocean waves or ocean surfing but people do Surf here in Chicago and on the great lakes. Lake Superior has some pretty good surfing as well. Our waves are created by wind instead of current so typically we only get good waves during a storm and oftentimes during the winter so most surfing around here is winter surfing when the temperate is like 15 degrees farienheit. I just bought a wet suit last year. I also bought a surfboard but only like an 8 foot surfboard and I hear you need a longer board. I think this paddleboard could be decent for surfing the lake as its a bigger boad so more surface erea which is needed since fresh water isn't as boyant and our waves are smaller and choppier and in shorter sets so I think this could actually be decent.

Here's some great lakes surfing....

Lake Michigan

Nice I use to have a long board it was like 9 ft 5 I think. Was a lot of fun kind of regret selling it but I live inland it's about a 20 minute drive for me to the nearest beach so I didn't use it much.

How's the surfing by you?

20 Minute drive, I'm super jealous of you. Pretty much every Saturday and Sunday I make about an hour and a half drive to go to the beach. On a good day with no traffic maybe an hour and 10 minutes but sometimes it could take me 2.5 hours to get to the beach.

Chicago beaches are pretty close but I don't really like Chicago beaches so I normally go to Michigan.

Was alright but better over on the east coast which is a couple of hours drive.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

stood on it on my floor, I can see its pretty thick so I can see why some people maybe say it will take a bit of getting used to comming from a hardboard but overall thus far seems very sturdy and durable, was easy to pump up and easy to deflate and get back into the bag.
It should be coming instead of comming.

great instrument. I love water.
