Can you spot the trick to this Faux Paradox + Funny paradoxes and my Philosophical outlook for Solving Paradoxes

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

Yesterday while I was writing on paradoxes and searching for few good images to link to my post I came across some interesting pictures from all over the internet in a very short time with many things to talk about. I also came across a faux paradox which would make some people scratch their heads. I'll save that one for the last.

Paradoxes are great food for thought. As Ayn Rand constantly brought out in Atlas Shrugged, contradictions don't exist. You have to check your premises if a contradiction arise. Things may appear as contradiction but that's not different from a mirage that should be deciphered with insight and wisdom. Paradoxes require us to think differently and out of the norm. That's why I always love a good paradox and even post riddles.

First here is something from Buzzfeed that's actually informative. It illustrates many paradoxes in one place.

When you look at the images that look like paradoxes, is there anything they all have in common? There is one thing that I always notice. If you take out one small part, it all looks like a completely normal image. Paradox is cause by a small addition that guides the eye in a different way affecting the mental perception of the observer. A paradox is like a metaphysical mirage.

The above image may drive your mind crazy until you understand certain few things. Different individuals will tackle this differently. Something I regularly do is getting the image into the 3rd dimension. Try to think of the image as a sculpture. Also try covering up one part of it. The paradox has been created by making one portion of the image different from the rest while integrating it seamlessly. These images aren't different from intellectual paradoxes. A false premise can be integrated into a rational argument to create a paradox. Getting rid of these false assumptions built upon false information or lack of information can clear new paths for mankind to tread on.

The trick to the above paradox is hard to miss with that large picture that is also pretty simple. It's just one odd part. Early days scientists claimed that the universe is small and certainly not infinite. Why? If the universe was infinite each point in the sky should lead to a star and the sky should be all bright all the time. Their fallacy was that assuming that the light was infinitely fast when in reality it was only 299,792,458 m/s and created a paradox when there was no such thing to begin with.

Portal is one of my all time favorite games that is both insanely smart and funny. Figuring out certain solutions alone gave me a feeling of listening to a Hiroyuki Sawano soundtrack. The image is from the game. Both the image and the game are highly recommended. Below is one of more above average quality soundtracks from Hiroyuki Sawano.

Here is a picture of Hiroyuki Sawano. Does he look like a composer? Are you looking at a paradox or are you just making one up based on preconceived notions about music composers?

Either way It's time for that faux paradox. It's a complete joke to even call this a paradox. Spot the BS and let me know in the comments below.

This so called paradox isn't even a paradox. It barely even took me a minute to spot to trick. Just put your attention on the fundamentals of area and shapes. It's all in a tiny detail most people would forget to look at.

Hopefully I managed to make you work your brains.

As I have grown older, I have come more and more to the conclusion that there is no teaching in physics, there is only inspiration to learn. ... That is exactly what I want to do to you guys. I want to get you to THINK!

Happy steeming :-)

Vimukthi I have severely question for you : Recently someone asked me
"Isn't 1 sbd suppose to be only 1 usd , why has it skyrocketd in value "

It's crazy how its so close to half the price on poloniex. It just doesn't make sence. Please guys, " add your imput. " As I remember correctly you posted a while ago a post about steem dollars .I think your well informed to answer his question . thanks !

Here is what I know. STEEMBackedDollar is like a gold backed dollar or paper gold. It's a note that say you can exchange this for X amount of Y. It was designed to be converted (not exchanged) to 1 USD worth STEEM. I also remember reading that SBD was designed in a way that the amount of SBD doesn't exceed 10% of the STEEM supply. So SBD supply should be 10% the USD value of STEEM .

STEEM marketcap 500 million means 50 million SBD coin supply. I don't know if any of these changed because of recent developments. Anyway the point is as long as the value of STEEM isn't zero the lowest value of 1 SBD is 1 USD (assuming dollar doesn't hit zero)

It's a safety net mechanism that was assumed to be stable but the free market pumped it up. SBD now has $12 price tag and $1 intrinsic Value.

Thanks for the reply vimukthi !

Great and still wondering, will back to you shortly.

So you're a deep thinker too :D I was already introduced to all of these Paradoxes by the Quora community... but amazing write-up!
