Photochain Photography Contest - Flowers
My third entry for the Photochaincommunity Flower Contest
There was so much going on in this field of wild flowers, I wasn't sure what to capture first. The yellow of the flowers stood out in a sea of green shades.
The bee was a bonus. There were many of them visiting the flowers, but they were too busy to model for my camera. This was a lucky shot.
I had been practicing (still am) taking pictures with in focus foreground details and blurry backgrounds to make the in focus part look even sharper. According to the many articles I read on this topic, it has everything to do with using the right aperture.
This concept of aperture is difficult to grasp in the beginning.
This is how it works:
- Large aperture (more light) results in a lot of blur in the background.
The larger aperture you use, the larger the blurry area - To use a large aperture you need to set your camera to a low aperture (F) number.
That is confusing. It is easier to remember when you read your aperture setting as 'the percentage of light reduction'. Then it is more obvious, to get a large aperture you need low reduction, which means lower F number.
There is no best aperture setting, it depends on the subject and the effect you want to create.
Get your camera out of its comfort zone, move from auto to manual mode, and start playing.

Dank je. Het ging eigenlijk om de bij, maar die staat er maar net op. Eigenlijk heb ik het niet zo op insecten, maar ze zijn zo leuk om te fotograferen. Wanneer ze gaan bewegen, deins ik vaak achteruit, dan krijg je dit soort beelden.
Het is wel grappig om te zien hoe een foto eigenlijk niet is geworden wat je verwacht, en vervolgens elementen bevat waardoor het toch een mooie foto is.
Ja het had mooi geweest als hij in de camera zou kijken :) Oh dat kan wel vervelend zijn dat je door de schrik net niet die foto kan maken die je wilt....
Inderdaad ik vind de bloemen mooi en de kleuren samen met de focus ervan! :)
Ehm, bioloog, dit is wel zijn voorkant lol.
Maar ik had hem in eerste instantie liever wat prominenter in beeld gehad. Uiteindelijk is het resultaat beter dan verwacht omdat de bloemen er mooi op staan.
