Exactly and yes, tranquil water shots are cool, but rapids should never be tranquil. :-)
I discovered this difference a few years ago when we were up in the Gorge somewhere and I took shots from the various angles and tried to work out why the downstream shots just weren't as nice despite the scenery.
I will share one in a few weeks (my backlog of photos is getting quite severe now.) where it was impossible to get the more active shot, but it's still cool.
