Are they edible? Hmmm yeah! But be ready to meet one of the most sour fruits under the sun. The baby ones are tolerable, the medium ones will need some salt to dip them in. As for the mature ones? They are used as sour mix for meat/fish stew, can be made into vinegar, can be applied to remove unremovable stains (be ready for some discolorations on your clothes) and lastly, they can clean stubborn dirt on your nails. Just let your nails scratched the fruit deeply and be amazed. They are called KAMIAS.

wow these look amazing, too bad they are sour.
i need to try this when i come visit you. LOL the mature one of course and a mix. sounds amazingly strong to take dirt out of the nail.s

Oh do try and i'll make a video. Those are our hand cleansers as kids, before we knew they are used for a lot of things.
We made some vinegar with those in grade school with fermentation. Still sour lols

wow thats super cool and a natural detergent.

and teeth whitener apparently..gotta check that. it's quite strong to the gums and lips the reason we stay away from it. the juice is.

teeth whitener is SO very important :D

Yeah but the application must not touch the oral mocusa as the juice is quite strong. Spitting it also can ruin the inner lining of one's lips.
In combination preferably.

Hay 😁 we have this tree at our home in South India too, it's called bilimbi tree😃 the fruit can be used as an alternative for lemon in making lemonades.

oh wow in lemonades! They're too sour mate, d you put loads of honey or sugar??

We use palm sugar, and regarding the sourness I wonder if it varies from region to region, the fruits we have in India are just a little bit more sour than gooseberries.

You can actually cook them in sugar like a sweetened potato. Just press most of the juice out.

Parang jam kuya? i think that's possible.

Yes ma'am, don't mash it just press some of the juice out before boiling it in water with sugar.
Masarap po saka nakaka puti ng teeth.

Wow. What an usual way to grow @immarojas. I'm never seen fruits growing on a trunk like that or are they on vines wrapped around a trunk. 😊

They grow around the trunk and branches Gillian. Am reading on the benefits right now.

WOW! Such abundance! This is one of my favorite fruits. I do really love its sour taste! Your photos are great with bright colors! ;)

Thank you. Do you use them in your cooking? Am getting a lot of feedbacks from my non-steemian friends☺

You're welcome! No, I don't use them in my cooking, but I eat them with some salt mixed with sugar and chilies. Really yummy! ;)

The baby or the matured ones? Forst time to hear about sugar in it, but i suppose it's so sour.
I was told they can be made into jams too.

I love to eat the matured ones! Yes, it's very sour indeed.... I don't know that they can be made into jams. That's really great! ;)

Yes i was told that. But with the matured ones...arent your gums and inner lips get sore?

Yes, my gums and inner lips may get sore, but because of its taste which is very yummy, I may forget about it while eating.... ;D

I betcha...a shame though as we just let them mature till they fell off. Here, it's just used in cooking but still rare.

They are a perfect side dish sliced thinly and mashed a bit with finely chopped onions and salt. Great with fried and grilled pork and fish.

Un mature kuya or pwede un maliliit?

fruit pictures are very good to see you are a lot better photographer.

oh thank you!
