Katydid update! - キリギリスの成長!

Just over two weeks ago I shared some pictures of a young katydid and while I can't be certain it's the same one, I found this sightly or katydid in the same area. The colour has become softly darker and the spines seem longer and sharper. If you look closely (or click to see the full res version), just above the legs are the starting points of the wing buds, a few more molts and the katydid will reach adulthood, with large leaf shaped wings.

It's antennae are long! It has two, one is just behind the other.

触角は長いいいいい!ちゃんと二本があるカメラの目線で重なってしまったんだ。

Do they have no wings or have not grown. Antenna is very long. Very good shot and looks very alive. Good luck always for you @mweich.

They have wings when they are adults, this katydid has not gotten its wings yet, buy you can see the place where they will grow soon.

Thank you my friend 😊👍.

grasshoppers that have sharper and smoother thorns. Thorny spines appear clearly in your photo. great photos...

Thanks, this isn't a grasshopper though it looks similar.

what kind of animal it's @mweich

Tettigonia orientalis

I just heard this name. A new thing for me in knowing this type of animal.Thank you @mweich ... I am really looking forward to your posting about other animals ..

Last summer, I photographed a similar specimen. I thought it was a locust. But I was informed that this is a green grasshopper. They are very good at flying 8)

Yeah, common names for insects and other animals are often ambiguous and confusing.
"Katydid" Tettigoniidae are in the sub-order of Ensifera of Orthoptera, where as "grasshoppers" are of order Caelifera of Othoptera. Which is the same amount of phylogenic difference as dogs (carnivora canidae) and cats (carnivora feliformia)!

Simply amazing! Perhaps with your knowledge in this area is very fun to observe how people can not tell a dog from a cat 8))))
I think it would make me sick, if I were you! 8)))))

Well, they do look very similar. Though your's was the third post that made the mistake, I'm not annoyed or anything, it's an easy mistake to make and in fact until recently I thought katydids and grasshoppers were nearly the same thing too!

So, I looked up exactly how different they are and it turns out, like I said in the above thread, they are as close as cats and dogs. My day job is teaching so I don't mind sharing new knowledge at all. :)

WOW nice macro shots. Lovely sharpness, wich lens do you use? followed and upvoted

Thank you for your support and a new follow too! :D

These days I'm using the Sony a7R iii, with Sigma 105mm Macro Lens.
