Dark Spell
This poem originally appeared on Sumayyah Said So
prayers spoken
hollow words
for the ones who were led astray
singing softly
deeply freely
these caged birds
pleading for prey
wave of blood crashing over
flesh and bone anew
atone repent to sin no more
these bells do toll for you
awaken child
go forth and cry
execute the plan devised
dance and shimmy
underneath the moon
feel the bite of pleasure
at your heels
seek the silver
evil none
can hold a candle’s flame
earthen bed
to rest your last
peace and soul to claim
