RE: Qurator's Photo Friday - Photography Competition #28 | Rules Changed

In freshwater tropical waters of Africa,Madagascar, Australia, China, Thailand, Vietnam and some other Asian countries is growing a very interesting plant. It has the name Water hyacinth, or scientific name Eichhornia (Eichhornia crassipes)
This exotic plant has one serious drawback: its leaves, stems and roots grow very thick, which creates a real impassable jungle that threatens the oxygen balance of eco-systems
Dense carpet of this plant covers the surface of water bodies. This leads to the death of other inhabitants of reservoirs and worsens the oxygen balance.

But, to help local residents came designers. They found a way to process this plant. Local residents cut eichornia and form bundles of its roots, of different thickness, from which after drying they weave strong and long ropes. Now from such strong fibers make various pieces of furniture and interior. This is an environmentally friendly natural material, it is completely natural, does not contain any toxic substances or materials of animal origin .

Sort:

This plant chokes up rivers, I heard they use them for fertilizer once chopped and decomposed. Find a good use for them is a better idea, since those weaving will pluck them out regularly and eventually remove them.

Very interesting and lovely black and white photography @madlenfox

@joanstewart Thank you very much for your comment and interesting addition to my story :)
