Sciencepic of the day (1) Fluorescent proteins in plant leaves

in #sciencepic6 years ago

On the right

Molecular plant biologists frequently express proteins in plants to study their function. This can be done by means of creating stable transgenic plants or alternatively, ectopically express your protein of interest.

The Image: Ectopic expression of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) in a leaf of Nicotiana benthamiana.

Left panel; a leaf that was infiltrated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens strains carrying 4 different transgenes. Three of the over-expressed proteins do not give a clear phenotype on the leaf, one causes mild cell death (bottom left site). Right panel; the same leaf exposed to UV light. The UV light allows for the activation and subsequent emission of fluorescent light from the GFP protein. This can be seen as bright yellow signal coming from one of the infiltration sites.

Thank you @foundation for this fantastic SteemSTEM gif

Wow!
So,there is going to be protein in plants too
that's amazing.

Yes. Plants make proteins too. Expressing genes from other organisms however, allows the production and study of many more

Yes,I'm reading about it now.
I never knew it before your post.
thanks.

Thanks hey this has taken me to my science classes and l really enjoyed them

Are you still taking classes? Regardless, let me know what interests you and I may post a sciencepic on the subject!

It looks really amazing !!!!!

Yes. I am thinking about writing a sciencepic piece in confocal microscopy. Problem is that it would be really technical and physics based. I don't have that background to communicate about it on that level. I wish one could collaborate on that..

Confocal is definitely amazing and attractive!!!
I might help on with a few words on those fluorescent dyes in chemical point of view XDD
But for those operational z stack stuff i really have no much idea about them
My groupmates use alot confocal but its really pitty that i dont have a chance to use it yet

Yeah. Interesting how users don't know much about the physics of it( myself included) Unfortunate but reality atm. It's hard to keep up anyways!

So true T.T
Its quite advance even we are in the field...........
