Steem not available on ShapeShift...I know why.
What's up fellow Steemians. As you may have noticed, the Steem currency hasn't been available on www.Shapeshift.io for quite some time now. I contacted them abt it and a little birdy told me it's because the demand (trading volume) is too low and the network had been too unstable. You can see that Steem has low volume on the exchanges (compared to other coins) and I recall node delays on and off for the past few weeks.
Here's the volume specs from CMC:
Let's assume that the network stability issues are resolved, that doesn't solve the lack of demand to convert Steem (buy or sell) and it's doubtful that Shapeshift has plans to reintroduce support for it.
Compare that to the volume of the surrounding coins and you can see the difference:
Why do you think there's an overall lack of interest in the Steem currency lately?
Why is there so much downward price action if the volume is so low? Does that mean it won't take much to push the price back up? Does delegated SP have and bot voting have any affect on this? Kinda feels like interest in the platform is flat-lining, but I'm not sure why.

I've been sort of wondering the same thing. I am still new enough I can't really comments on what is normal, but it seems to me there is a tremendous amount of room for grow. The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is because Bitcoin is so high, people with very little money are not buying and you need bitcoin to bring it into Steemit. I waited over a week looking for a better time to buy bitcoin. Others might be doing the same.
do you think ppl are buying bitcoin rather than steem? Do you think the bitcoin money will flow back in to steem? Thx for commenting!
People who have more than $100 to invest at one time are buying Bitcoin and holding it, not selling it for Steem. Once we get past the fork, I think things will start to improve a little but it will say slow until after Christmas.
