Deanlogic you are absolutely correct, all bots should be eliminated other than those that hunt down those that misuse the platform. I have made it a point to totally disregard all bots. Those who utilize their service, to me, lack self confidence in themselves and their own abilities. I also believe that self upvoting should be outlawed across the entire platform. Upvoted and resteemed................billytwohearts

I have been trying to figure out what they are, and if they are doing anything in the end...so have tried them out. In the end, I find that they do not actually increase SBD or SP, or put one higher in the view of others. What they do, is bring in revenue for the bot creator and sponsors under the guise of helping. So if I were to delegate SP or SBD to a bot, I would be getting SBD payments regularly. The bots are a business, much like the lottery...and the revenue is generated by the people who buy into it.
So now my trial is done, and I understand how they work.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the self-paid bot upvotes also increase the reputation score.

It is just a mathematical function...maybe someday there will be some way to sort them from people upvoting.

Yeah, it should be possible to sort this out with an update.

Elew thanks for your comment. There are a few bots as I mentioned that work for the good of the platform but the vast majority of the bots as you mentioned are nothing more than a money maker for those who created them.

I also believe that self upvoting should be outlawed across the entire platform.

Upvoting of ones comments, yes.
Maybe removing upvoting of articles, if the issues with spam and bots was taken care of. For 99% of the user, that's the only way of getting any rewards.

I upvote my posts because I know that I'll at least get 1 vote that way.

Not JUST SpamBots.
Vote Harvesting bots to.
Voting Bots is why the SpamBots appeared.
they attract them like flies.

Oh...I agree.

I begrudging use OriginalWorks occasionally in order to show that I'm not a bot.

An upvoting bot is no different than a article or comment making bot.

upvoting bots are the major reason for spam.
why spend hours (or even a few minutes) carefully crafting an article when you get a MUCH greater return on time invested by slinging spam?

Looks like we are the only two that care.

pretty much.
many others protest a lot.
but secretly like it.
they are in on the scam.

Bots are the reason I
WOULD NOT
invest any money is Steemit.

If you upvote shit with minnowbooster you will get downvoted, lose followers and only earn hate.

Used correctly for good posts you can close the gap between minnows and whales and get some attention you would otherwise not get.

Upvote bots ain't the problem. People simply go where the money is. And if you want money you better already have some or you are forced to use bots because otherwise, you will be forever unknown on steem.

The real problem is that you can make money on steem. Money decides who will get attention. And if you have none you will stay a nobody.

The rich get rich & the poor will stay poor (unless they break the rules and do whatever they can). Welcome to capitalism.

nope..not true.
it's possible to start from zero and make a LOT of money on Steemit.
PapaPepper has done it..
(no one said it was easy)

capitalism (the freemarket) is a GOOD thing...very much to preferred to any other economic system.

Yeah that is possible, but I will use the system and all that it offers to increase my profits here.

Ignoring the tools that are available for moral reasons ain't how I work.

I would not die with regrets knowing I used a bot to make money. A lot of rich people nowadays did a lot of questionable things to reach the top and nobody cares anymore.

The best and most extreme example would be Hillary Clinton. The attention her fucked up behavior gets is minimal for what she has done.

2nd time I hear about "PapaPepper" today. Time to check out his blog.

I want to ask a question, how a BOT like this will be received:

  • Free to use just need to follow the issuing user.

  • Upon summoning, leaves a encouraging message and up-votes from a 8k SP trail at a variable percentage depending in the merit points the summoner accumulates for using the bot.

  • It votes very lowly on self summonings and depending on the merit points can even cast 100% votes

  • Merit points are earn on curation quality and supporting of users by means of advice given in the summoning comment (which might also earn a manual vote from the trail)

  • The users can call vote power it will be ignored if the merits points don't allow for and will default to the merit point level.

  • The bot pays for itself by voting its comments at the lowest possible VP% and if positive return use it to lease SP delegation.

  • People can join the trail with flexible settings to help by making the trail weight stronger or vote the comments for support which in turn will give the summoner merit points based not on the $ of the vote, but on the weight of the vote, so a minnow with no SP vote will provide the same merit points a whale vote would... actually probably more, because it is based on vote weight % not on VESTS

So would the comment be considered spammy? And the self votes on them would be considered abusive?

It would be received poorly by me.
I mute each and every bot that I identify.

You guys better not touch Minnowbooster. WIthout that bot my awesome 200% effort posts would only be worth around 0.02 cents because all the rich fucks get all the attention!

bot's don't care about content..so why bother?
I've made test posts that were total nonsense (zero effort) ...and they were still voted on by 'bots"

But a lot of people seem to do (about my content). Without bots a lot of my posts would be overlooked and I wouldn't get comments, followers, resteems and upvotes.

There will always be tools to reach the top which are seen as immoral by some. You will have to live with that fact.

If I was you I would use them as well, I see no reasons not to except that some people don't like that.

I have not received downvotes or hateful comments for using bots.

You can use Minnowbooster without it commenting in your posts.

You do what you want to do.
Just as typhoid mary was free to do what she wanted to do.

That woman has a "sick" history.

I saw that you asked me if I have no morals. I guess you deleted it? Don't worry about it Mickey I gladly answer that.

I have morals, but not the kind of morals that normal people have.

Using whatever tool there is to climb the ladder ain't against my morals. And I try to care as less about what people think about me in my life as I can.

I know that this platform is ruled by the people, and I see that some don't like bots.

But I also see that they don't seem to have a problem when I boost high quality content with it.

did I delete it?
don't remember doing so.
I don't think you are correct about the platform being 'ruled'.

Not exactly ruled. But wouldn't 3 people with a lot of voting power be able to rule a large part of this platform? Like downvoting everything they don't like and therefore prevent people from posting?

I think that is possible and has already happened somehow "whale wars".

not exactly.
The so called whales are the early investors. They put up a lot of money (and I mean a LOT of money...tens, hundreds or MILLIONS of dollars)
Why?
ROI (return on investment)
Their intention was to make MORE money.
I don't see anything wrong with that..do you?
