What's Up With Ned's Post?

in #steem5 years ago

Yesterday after i finished my post as well as my general curation i saw a post by Ned. It was another livestream, the third to be exact but i saw something different. To tell you the truth, at first i thought it was like the other with guitar playing so no point for me to check it. Then i saw a huge-ass comment section with well written comments that you could tell something serious happened. It was late though, so i left the tab open for today.

Today was a busy day as well so i couldn't really check the whole livestream but i see some parts of it and also read some comments. There were some great ones but in most of them you could see argues between members as to what ned said. So once again i think i didn't received the whole message.

the initial post just in case

The gist of what i at least understood is that steem doesn't equal steemit.inc and that in general the costs are extremely high and they will prioritize to give a solution to that. Also, that steemit.inc believes we as a community expect everything from them while it is clear that as i mentioned above steem and steemit are completely different things, according to them.

That's what i got, it may be dead wrong so enlighten me please

What's making me Sad?

This livestream showed that all these things ned mentioned, he kept them inside him or at least only a few knew, so it really felt like an outburst. Also, there was a series of event that if we get to see them all together something doesn't add up, or it's plain disappointing.

On the one hand we have the so called Steemfest 3 that everyone was happy about, a lot of people went there from all over the world and heard many fascinating and amazing things about our beloved Steem and the Dapps.  Ned was there too (i wasn't) and by some livestreams i saw, i never heard any of these things i heard in this one. (once again i maybe completely wrong). Many people came back 1000% motivated and even us that we stayed back home got motivated from the posts, livestreams, photos.

Then a couple of weeks later ned announces that he fired around 70% of his employees cause of high costs and stuff. I won't argue with that cause cause i don't know the exact variables but 70% of the stuff is a serious number. Moreover, we get to see the third livestream yesterday regarding all these issues and how serious they are.

So we have a huge motivation and a couple of weeks earlier a huge demotivation with the blame card as well.

From what i got people and steemit.inc should work together. We have some great communities and minds around that can add a lot to what ned is trying to achieve. As always though there is a lack of communication and here lies the problem among other things. The separation of steem and steemit.inc, although it sounds ok from the perspective that they are 2 different things and steemit is an app based on steem blockchain it's much more than that.

It's the chain the holds the blockchain and thus steem. I get it there are other dapps but still are not even close to steemit's level. Also the other practice of building dapps/apps that change the interface of Steemit is a waste of time for me. We had 1 then 2 now 3-4. It's like we try to hide the the actual problems and not solve them. We either need a completely new interface for steemit, that steemit.inc should work alongside members and communities in here or someone create the bigass app that becomes more popular than steemit and when outsiders search for steemit, that would be the first thing to pop out.

I wanted to write so many things, about the automation/dapps that help in the decline of activity, highlight other problems and what should be done (in theoretical level) but i already wrote so many things.

I wanna let me know what exactly did you get from what ned said and what you think we as individuals or community do about?

This is what companies look like when it is in crisis mode. As I understand, the original vision of the STEEM blockchain was that their blockchain would be more than just one web site.

The problem with this vision is that the various elements of the eco-system are likely to be in conflict with each other.

if the vision is what you said then you don't built steemit cause it's 100% that people will get in there first and tie it to steem even though it's just an app based on it. Also, even though we have many dapps/apps now, i can guarantee that if tomorrow magically steemit seized to exist the price of steem would be close to 0. That's how tied it is, it's like a chain that if you break it everything is destroyed. In other words if the initial vision was that, they did something wrong since the beginning
