HOW TO GET GOD'S ATTENTION

I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.John 17:9

Intercession was always part of Jesus prayers. He acknowledges in his prayer how he had kept his disciples safe by interceding for them.

While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. Vs.12

Intercession is a must for every believer. Our act of interceding for others is the reflection of the love of God in us. How far you have gotten in life may be as a result the help of others, the height you have reach, the levels you have reach and the things you have acquired is as a result of others who have interceded for you.

The disciples of Christ were safe because they were kept by him. In life you live to give not to receive. Life is all about giving to others than receiving from others. People who doesn't really wants to give to others are those who cannot be intercessors.

From the scriptures, you can see that one of the things that God delights more in is the prayers we pray for other people.
Sometimes to get God's attention you must attend to others first. A person who attends to others get more attention from God than a person who does not.

Jesus knew this secret and that's why even on the cross when he was in pain he still prayed for others forgiveness when he himself was carrying our sins. He wanted God's attention

Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. Luke 23:34

Stephen knew this secret that's why he still prayed for others when he was on the verge of death. He wanted God's attention.

And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.Acts 7:59-60

I have discovered that this has been one of the secrets of many men of God. As they attend to others request they get God's attention quickly.

The LORD restored Job’s prosperity after he prayed for his friends. The LORD doubled everything that Job had once possessed.

And the Lord restored Job’s losses[a] when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10

The reason why praying for others is one of the best ways to get God's attention is that, it is a form of sacrifice we make to God and sacrifice attracts the attention of God quickly. One of the things we do that touches the heart of God is our sacrifice for others. When we do for others we do unto God.

I asked myself these questions:

Why would God not go ahead to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if He was so angry with them but rather will talk to His friend Abraham first?

And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” And the Lord said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, “Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked? Genesis 18:17-23

Why would God not punish the three friends of Job if He was so angry but rather would require Job to intercede for them?

And so it was, after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord commanded them; for the Lord had accepted Job. And the Lord restored Job’s losses[a] when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:7-10

Why would God not go ahead to rescue Peter from prison until He had waited for the Church to pray first ?

So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover. Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.” Acts 12:4-8

It's because God always require a sacrifice of prayer for others.
