I think comments and engagement can be gotten through communities of that sort otherwise you have to pay for it somehow.

Communities here might include dPoll, Steemhunt and others.

Unless you live in a third world country, a few cents here and there in upvotes are not going to make much difference to your financial situation.

You're absolutely right with this. I live in a third world country and posting on Steem is something one can consider for a full time job but I have noticed it isn't worth it for most people in the develop countries.
