RE: Commentversations and Other Engagement

in #steemit6 years ago

Wow, you're beating me to the punch all over the place with post ideas! I'm still going to do this one. Maybe today. Maybe tomorrow. Still need to get cracking on it, though. I'm behind on my posts this week. Incidentally, my comments are higher than they were this week through this time. Any correlation? Nah.

I have to say it's been fun so far to be a part of your Steemit journey. Thanks for having me along, again.

My apologies. There have been a number of times that I have started posts and didn't finish them. Then the opportunity just passed and I never posted it. I started just making the posts and getting them out. I figured it's better than regretting not posting it.

Good job on having your comment count up. It means you'll probably have a better standing in the League. Good luck on your posts. I'll try not to jump the gun on them. ;)

Oh, no need to apologize for anything. Any topic is fair game. I'm actually glad to see more from you, though some things can be a little on the short side. Hopefully since they tend to be the silver ones, that's helping you with the SSG folks. I actually think it's a good time to increase posts, darkhorse's minnow uprising notwithstanding. So go for it.

As it is, I did manage to get my version of the comment list post out, and I also got two other posts. Now, if I'm going to get to ten for the week, I'll need to publish four more tomorrow. That's what happens when the first part of the week I only manage to get a total of three posted.

Need to work on building up subject matter. Sometimes, though, it's situational, like this kind of post, where you're essentially extending Asher's post. Kind of hard to plan for what others are doing. Some spontaneity is good.

Yeah, most of my silver posts tend to be on the shorter side, but the main point is to be getting out a post per day on silver. There's only so much that can be said about each coin/round/bar so I mainly show the pictures and say a bit about it. I'm not sure how long that will be sustainable. I've been busting my butt to get money for silver so I can have a bunch of different fancy designs to showcase. Not sure how long that will last.

I may cut the silver posts back a bit. I think it's fine as long as I'm still posting a lot about precious metals. There are a lot of people who post about their travels or whatever and that's ok. They still do metals posts. I know some of them use the steemsilvergold tag even on posts that are just about vacation or something and I wouldn't do that, but I can't see them having an issue with my posting on gardening or whatever if I'm still posting on the shiny. :)

I thought taskmaster was encouraging the minnow uprising. I could be wrong though. I don't think I'm going to be doing four posts per day. That just seems like a lot. I don't even know what I would talk about. I feel like at that point I would just be posting pictures and not a whole lot else to say with it. That doesn't work for most people, so I've shied away from that. Things could change, but I really only get one good post per day and the rewards on the second post are normally fairly low. I don't want to use up good material... and it's disheartening to see such low numbers. Maybe I just shouldn't look! Ha ha.

I saw that you got your engagement post out. That was good. I liked that you didn't repeat the whole list, but just highlighted the ones that were different.

Hey, if you want to get four posts out tomorrow, more power to you. I always had an issue coming up with stuff to say, so getting one out meant I was doing well. Good luck!

That would be good if you could come up with another few topics that excite you and you would be willing/eager to write about consistently. It seems like the people who have exciting personal lives are the ones who are more likely to have content to post. Since I don't really post about my personal life too much (other than that I went to get silver... and I worked in the garden) I can't really go out and show what I've been working on recently. Maybe it's different for you and you would be able to highlight your garden plant of the day or something?

Some of my best and worst posts have come from spontaneity. Use it well. :)

So, that's one of those post like comments you were talking about. :)

It certainly doesn't help when there's not a lot to say, or not a lot comes to mind. From an engagement standpoint, it's tricky, too, because in my case, I have to find the hook, or it's tough to have anything meaningful to add.

Once in a while I find myself basically repeating back or summarizing what people said in their post and while I'm basically trying to agree, I don't know that I'm truly accomplishing anything. So, anyway, we do what we can, and I think it's great you've found a niche you enjoy and where I can even go being the not yet stacking but wannabe stacker that I am.

Well numbers for me overall have been disheartening lately, regardless of how many were posted, which wasn't many until today.

I'm not even sure what all I'll be able to do. Neoxian has a post-apocalyptic writing contest that ends on Sunday that I became aware of Wednesday late that I'd like to enter but the ideas have been fleeting. Doesn't help that I think dystopia and apocalyptic is saturated, nor does it help that I dislike that people seem to be so fascinated by it. It's all fun and games until the EMPs are set off, the mother of all earthquakes hit, the zombie outbreak happens or the invasion begins (country or outer space kind, take your pick). Then, it's just death and suffering.

But people don't see that part. They just like to see how the human spirit continues battling on, which is fine, but I prefer we did more to keep things together, rather than fantasizing that we're going to miraculously live through it all and do it with a smile on our face.

See, bad attitude for writing, which is why I have nothing so far.

I definitely need topics. I'm not sure what excites me, other than fiction.

My life is not a thrill a minute. I've been sharing a lot of what happens to me, which so far has been filled with garden updates, cooking adventures, and fortune cookies. I've probably done more thrilling things in the past, which I guess I could try to do more on, I'd just have to have a starting place.

This is one of those comments I was talking about! Ha ha.

It's tough to stay on top of all the things that are going on around here. Hopefully you were able to get a post together for Neozian's contest.

I know what you mean about that post-apocalyptic market being saturated. It seems like that's all that comes out nowadays. You're also right that although in the books and movies you (as the reader or main character) always live to see how things go, there are a lot of people that die. Odds of any specific person making it through the initial wave of deaths is low. Odds of that person having the skills to survive the next catastrophes is even lower.

I guess people read what they want to read, but most people don't band together now, so why would they later? There's still going to be the same issues as there are now. The main difference will be that there won't be as much comfort from technology, food, shelter, etc...

I don't believe in zombies. I think you can have zombified people, but I don't think you could reanimate them and expect them to do any meaningful damage to anyone. What's more likely is that there will be some kind of mind-control device or brain-dumbing device that allows a controller to "operate" the (former) people like puppets. Just a thought.

As far as dead flesh coming back and not just rotting away? Highly unlikely.

People have been really into uLogs recently on Steemit. It's basically just posting about your life. Doesn't have to be interesting, just your life. Seems like it would help if it were interesting though. Otherwise, it's just a spam post about how you saw a squirrel outside. Or you took the trash out.

I've got an idea for one of those posts, but I have to go somewhere to do it. I was going to take pictures the last time I was there, but the danger level was too high. I didn't want to die just for a Steemit post. Look forward to that post! ;)

I just barely posted my entry about 20 minutes ago. Fortunately, I had something mostly written for a novel I was starting. Or maybe I'll make it into a comic book series some day. Anyway, I had to find an ending for it, which I'm not sure I liked, but I was running out of time.

I don't know that it's my best work, but maybe I'll get one of the honorable mentions instead. There were a few pretty decent stories I saw. The rest, some of them I'm not even sure they understood what the writing contest was about. They weren't post-apocalyptic even remotely. I think in many of those cases, there was a language barrier, because the English in the story and in their comment links weren't all that good. Of course, they may have understood and just decided to throw something neoxian's way. I'm going to think twice about entering again if any of them win anything. :)

Well, see, I think the younger generations, the ones who typically go for this stuff, have the video game or movie mentality that they will survive and somehow will magically know what to do, because they've played The Last Of Us or something similar, or they've watched World War Z or The Walking Dead.

I think anymore, the zombies are generally infected with some kind of virus or neurotoxin, and then go around creating others through bite wounds or something. I've never been much of a zombie fan myself, so I haven't paid more than passing attention to it. The idea of reanimating flesh goes against science, not to mention religious beliefs. There's probably some bug out there that comes back to life when zapped by electricity or some such thing, and therefore all humankind is susceptible to reanimation, too.

I've been seeing the uLogs. It's starting to have a wider appeal. There must be some contest or upvotes attached. I think it primarily used to be among the Indonesian authors, but not so much anymore.

Well, don't go falling off of anything. I guess I've been doing some posts about my life without uLogging it. Oh, well. You are right, just like every other post on Steemit, some are better than others.

I saw that your post is up, but I'm winding down for the evening and I don't want to read a post-apocalyptic story right before bed. Who knows what kind of dreams that would give me.

You're probably right that the younger generation assumes they'll know what to do because of movies or video games. There's a big difference between watching someone do it on tv and actually getting off the couch and doing it yourself. As someone who has spent a lot of time doing stuff outside, I know that practice is important.

I hope you're able to win the contest. And hopefully one of the non-post-apocalyptic ones wins because it would be a shame for you to stop entering contests. I think I saw that posting and thought about writing something, but nothing was stirring in the brain box, so I passed on it. Maybe next time.

I don't know where the uLogs started, but they were really popular this last week. I think you're right that there might have been some kind of contest or prize for using it, but I couldn't find a post on it. I just found out it's basically a post on your life.

I will stay away from cliffs, ledges, roofs, and other things that I could fall off of... at least for now. That might be for another quest.

I'll be heading out shortly, so if I don't talk to you, have a great rest of your weekend and I'll see you Monday sometime. I should be around as there's a contest that I'm in where I could win some silver and I need to be present to win. I could potentially close it out soon. It's going to be close though. We'll see!

A silver contest! Nice. Present to win, as in your own home waiting for the telephone, present to win over an internet video call, or present to win as in some LCS? Okay, well, I look forward to hearing about this, now that you spring it on me just before you're heading out.

The uLogs were started by surpassinggooggle if I'm not mistaken, and maverickinvictus has been doing them, and defending them, for a while now. Anyway, others are obviously getting involved and we're following them. :)

Well, okay. Maybe you'll get a chance to look at it. I was hoping for a second opinion, but truly no worries there. It's definitely late and I need to knock off too. Seems like I'm always trying to get up early the next day, regardless of what day it is.

Later!
