Adoption, Numbers and What Users Want

in #steemit5 years ago

Steemit is more than just a business model, a place to make money with your blogs. It is a social platform. And as such, its growth is dependent upon meeting the needs of a very diverse user group.

Recently, I started reviewing @penguinpablo posts. Trying to get a feel for the overall makeup of Steem users as well as the Steemit platform. And if you are not already reviewing @penguinpablo, you might want to check them out. Very informative. As good as @penguinpablo's information and presentation is, I think I was looking for something else.

There have been many posts recently on adoption. Both for Steem and Steemit. Based on what I've learned so far, and I'm relatively new to Steemit, less than 60 days in at this point, Steemit seems to be the biggest driver of Steem adoption. Although it seems that several games and non-fungible tokens, or NFT's, will be adding significantly to this space this year. And, should also mention that there is a lot of Steem in exchanges, though I'm thinking that much of that is derivatives and not the actual cryptocurrency. But this post is not about the dark side of exchanges.

Thinking of my own experience in Steemit so far, I've been pleasantly surprised with the general knowledge base and entertainment value. I've also been very appreciated for being able to find my own voice, a work in progress to be sure. But the variety of information and opportunity to interact with others is what brings me back on a daily bases. And, perhaps that is what is most important to me.

More creatives posting on Steemit would be great. But, without meaningful readership, seems a little moot. So, what is going to drive the next generation of users to the Steemit platform? Seems to be the $64 dollar question that everyone is asking. Still looking for an answer myself.

However, if Steemit continues to offer a diverse cultural social experience in a relatively safe environment, it cannot help but grow. As several have said recently, Steem and Steemit have what every other cryptocurrency wants, lots of active participation on an expanding platform. Now there is a lot in the first sentence of this paragraph, which I think I'll unpack in a later post.

Hmm, this may have been a bit of a ramble, but it has been something on my mind for a while. I would be very interested in your opinions. Please share.

Have a great day and be safe out there.

Thank you @shortsegments. Appreciate you dropping by.

I.am longer here as you are, at first I didnt feel welcome at all and the big earning time was already over. Most of the Steemians who invited me left longer ago.
As I decided to give Steem a 2nd chance everything had changed. Although I do join contests and certain communities I don't really feel a member of the group. This also has to do with the fact I need to learn a lot to fit in and certain communities are started by certain countries.

I wonder what you mean with 'adoption'? The way @steembasicincome works or communities adopting a member for a week or?

What will the drive for the new generation be is a good question. They say less join Facebook which is seen more and more for the elderly people. I have doubts about it. Steem is not strong enough to replace the present social media. If you have to pay to be able to post it will not be attractive to the biggest group in this world using it.

The content is not better as elsewhere. So what is positive? Your content remain on the blockchain forever? Is that a plus if no one will read is or is able to read it?

I'm glad you decided to give Steemit a second chance @wakeupkitty. Seems like each of us must find our way, as well as our "voice", or what we want to talk about.

When I speak of adoption, I mean the general acceptance by the masses. Getting new users into the system and familiar with cryptocurrency in general.

I really appreciate your last point, if content remains on the blockchain forever, but no one is reading it, what is the value. Well, I'm not sure anything is forever. I believe we will see that blockchains come and go. And while I hope Steemit sticks around, you never know.

But that was not really your point. I think you were driving at the value of the content if no one is viewing it. And that is a good question. When I first joined Steemit I read a lot of old posts. And even voted on a number of them, unfamiliar with the 7 day payout model. I did get value out of the older posts. But, the Steemit financial model was designed around a very short view up front. Effectively pushing everyone for new content. Good or bad, that is the way it is.

I recently blogged about a A New Curation Paradigm for Steemit. A witness, @holger80, has a utility that will allow you to effectively curate, send a reward to, posts that have passed the 7 day period. Personally I think this is great, but I doubt it will have a big impact on the Steemit model. But if you really want to reward an older post you can.

Sorry, I think this response was more a ramble. But, I always appreciate you dropping by and your comments. Thank you @wakeupkitty. Have a great day.

I appreciate your 'rambles'. I will check out @holger80, to be honest I think good content should always be rewarded.

I noticed it is possible to upvote 7 days old posts with @partiko. Yesterday it was the first time I saw a post where it was not possible to do so.

I hope steemit does and if not (steemit inc) steem does.

I feel the same my dude! I really want to see this community grow. I agree that this platform has just about everything that you would want in a platform. We need to start posting our steem posts on the regular platforms to at least get it out there. With all the cool apps out there on steem, like DTube, DSound, Drugwars, and Steem Monsters, plus not to mention Steem Engine and the new DEX and token structure on Steem, it can only get bigger, it's just getting the SHEEPLE to WAKE UP and come join the party.

Hi there @thelogicaldude. Thanks for dropping by. Getting the word out is very important. And I agree with the apps you mentioned, very cool. I'm hoping to get started in DTube shortly. Not a big gamer, but I'm curious about Drugwars.
