Idea i had for reducing the burden on STEEMIT.INC and pushing Steem dapps to the forefront//

in #steemit5 years ago

For a while i wanted to do a video or at least an audio recording. See how it goes. Basically using an idea i had and giving it a go.

Short summary:

2 problems im seeing:

  1. People equate STEEMIT with STEEM. The crypto community at large doesnt make a distinction between the two.
  2. While we have a great platform to build upon its very hard to attract developers since they simply cannot compete for users due to STEEMIT being free.

So what i would propose is STEEMIT.INC adding a 5-7% beneficiary fee to posting through the Steemit interface.

Ofc im aware at what this would mean.

Bots (for better of worse) are a important part of the Steem economy and this would not go well by bot owners and bot users since anything that would affect author payouts, affects bots and thus affects bot delegator earnings.
Which is exactly why i i think 5-7% fees could potentially be something that would be bearable. Bot/upvote service users could still have that 3-5% ROI per post remaining.
And now we not only have the ocd non-profit bot with smartmarket offering 15% ROI for a limited time.

With any change someone is bound not to be happy.

This ofc has nothing to do with giving STEEMIT.INC "more money" since the trust in their ability just isnt there anymore, but its rather about diminishing the influence of Steemit on the STEEM blockchain that in my opinion would lead to users migrating from Steemit to other dapps that offer a more innovative and modern UI, more innovative solutions which would in turn allow dapp developers to increase their revenue and increase development.
Question is: "If Steemit adds beneficiary fees, will dapp developers increase fees on their platforms thus rendering this change ineffective?".. Greed shouldnt be underestimated, but devs being in the position they are now and still working hard is showing me that wont be the case...

At first STEEMIT.INC would have some SP dripping into their wallets but over time would lose its 50% traffic they get on the STEEM blockchain, Steemits influence would drop and STEEM dapps importance would increase over time.
And that should be our main goal.
I dont think that those "few Steem" going into a Steemit.inc account, though they could use the increased funds to fund projects and whatnot, would make a lot of difference money-wise.
But what i do think would make a difference for them is reducing their burdain because over time Steemits importance on the STEEM blockchain would fade out, allowing Steemit.inc to focus more on completing those long awaited projects.
By adding beneficiary fees they would not only help themselves, but would help every other dapp on STEEM.

Brand recognition is everything in the crypto market and this would imo change the perception over time as "STEEM being STEEMIT" and would push STEEM dapps to the forefront. It would show external developers that now they can compete with Steemit for users.... along with maybe getting that Steemit.inc delegation.

Ive been looking at a few other blockchain social media sites and even though they are bare bones in terms of tech, basically dont even need a blockchain to do what they do, they seem to be growing at a faster pace then expected...

Another thing that could be done, to offset the cut in author earnings is to have STEEMIT.INC delegate a small percentage of their stake to proven community projects. This would of course affect the rewards pool but could maybe act as a trade off..

So yeah thats my idea of how to make a simple change that i think could have a broader effect.

Hope i didnt bore you. :D

I have to practice my english a bit and what better way to do it then with an excuse to talk about STEEM a bit. haha

As i say in the video, its just a simple idea and some have shared it before... Agree/disagree, let me know in the comments.
See you around.

That wouldn’t suit them though. Since I am rather convinced that long term (midterm actually) Steemit Inc. wants to be the consulting monolith in the world of onboarding new SMT founders.

Queue the last year in the IBT announced $20m fund for SteemApps. As such brand recognition - and being the blockchain dev team - are a huge thing for them. They’re basically their business model. At least, the easy path to it. Whether it’s the smartest thing given all “things Steemit beta”... that’s a whole ‘nother discussion, but it’s definitely the fastest way.

Pretty much similar to Automattic operating wordpress.com, the commercial platform built on the open source wordpress.org software. While Matt just happens to be the creator of WordPress (by forking b2), he’s to most first and foremost the WordPress guy, not the Automattic dude.

Yet, his day to day active influence on wordpress.org is as small as Vitalik keeps repeating his is on ETH. But you bet it makes a difference when promoting WordPress.com VIP. That works better than promoting say BestProBlogHostingPlatform.com.
