Are you writing quality content for Steemit?

I want to dispel a myth.

People keep saying to succeed on Steemit you need to write quality posts ...

Quality is not rewarded here very often.

Money and influence is rewarded, popularity is rewarded, pretty girls are rewarded, occasionally usefulness is rewarded, but from what I can tell, "quality" is the lowest priority.

Look at this from the point of view of people trying to get the most rewards for themselves - they curate and write what will get them the best results, not necessarily what is the best :)

Do your best, of course, but remember "quality" is subjective.

I mean, what is quality?

One person's quality post is another persons ten minutes of life they will never get back

Defining quality

Consider quality in the rest of life.

People argue Mac versus PC and say Macs are better quality. Sure my Macs feel good and last a long time, but they are also so expensive for what you get (to the point of me building a Hackintosh), and there are PCs just as well built.

Could it be people only perceive higher quality due to superior branding and marketing?

What about food?

Is it quality because it was made by a top chef? Or because the ingredients are better? Do you feel GMO is better quality or worse? How about calories and nutrients?

What should you do?

I have been blogging since the early 1990s. Before it was called "Blogging". What I have found is people need to feel satisfied after reading your post.

Rather than work toward some vague, subjective idea of "quality" ...

Have a point

Even a good meme has a point, but "stream of consciousness", unless very entertaining, is probably going to score very highly and might even cause people to feel you wasted their time.

Make your point clearly

As well as having a point, you need to make your point, quickly, clearly, and convincingly. Cut the fluff.

Format for reading!

Use pictures, subheads, bullets, emphasis ... people need to not see a wall of grey text but a structured, hierarchical article that is easy to read.

Proofread

Read back what you wrote and make sure it flows, makes sense, and has basic grammar/spelling correction.

Cite your sources and attribute your images

That is not just the right thing to do, it shows you care enough to do the right thing.

Get your work the visibility it deserves

Promote and network, don't be Steemit's best-kept secret, and don't assume the platform will give you the visibility by default.

Bottom Line

Your reader needs to be able to consume your entire article, understand it, and after reading your post they should feel satisfied.

Or at least leave with a smile.

Ideally they will vote it up and comment too!

THAT is how you measure quality.

Agrre with you, additionally I would say that, very often, people confuse quality with a long post...
Being concise and synthetic with the message is also a sign of good quality and, in my opinion, the most important...frankly, I don't have the time to read everything is posted and sometimes, many good articles don't reach the readers because their length...

:)

It also helps to make steem or steemit your first tag. lol I believe you have nailed it. My "quality" posts don't get as much notice as my shorter off the cuff posts.

@Lahvista

You nailed it to the core quality is only good for documentaries but on steemit the only thing that counts is if you have the steem / influence ,beauty and popularity otherWise the rest really struggle to the top.

its really simple , if someone likes your content they like it , whistles, bells and fairy lights make no difference if you ask me , very interesting post . Up-voted and Following

All we can do is create our content in a way that as many people as possible will like it, but you can't please everyone and you shouldn't try :)

I agree with all you have said @makerhacks. Particularly in the place where you talk about quality been subjective.

Perfect article!

You are completely right. It's disappointing when you spend hours researching and creating good quality content, only to have it not seen or appreciated. Then you look at the trending page and there is someone making a fortune on a picture of them in yoga pants. (I don't look good in yoga pants :)

While frustrating, I believe in the end, good quality content will be rewarded.

Thanks for the great article, I'm going to follow you because I think you got it figured out.
@tincanjunction

Not sure if life would have been more difficult or easier if I looked good in yoga pants ... not sure I want the answer to that ;)
