Having been a blogger prior to joining Steemit, I have a ton of bookmarks for tools to help with the process of creating new posts. I have also been using these tools to help me create better posts since I became a member here. These tools not only help increase productivity, but can take a lot of the guesswork out of writing. Additionally, I have discovered numerous tools and apps that were created specifically for the Steemit community. A lot of tools, most of which I have never visited.
Writing your article should only be one of the three phases:

  1. Documentation and prior search to see if anything else was done before
  2. The writing of the article and linking it within the community. There are other writers that would like to read other opinions on the subject. And you can also rely on their work for parts of your article. This means that if you are writing about the benefits of a cup of tea and reading a book in the evening, you can link to a science article about Tea from a SteemSTEM author for example, without having to write your own arguments. This is building communities and brings you more exposure :P
  3. Promotion and Analysis: get in touch with fellow writers and talk on the subject. Follow the tags you post on. Send them to your own blog if you have something that might help them. Analysis is when you use these tools to measure engagement, profile users and find out where you have the greatest impact.

You can check my blog for further information, I have written more advice into organically growing while following the rules and common sense. Organic growth is how smart users grow.

smart and ethical :)

Hi Rebecca, it is a very nice post you have compiled here!

In order to receive notifications about mentions, new follows etc, I am using both steem.rocks by @emrebeyler and the @ginabot guide by @neander-squirrel

I have been thinking of using busy.org that actually has done some great enhancements but I feel too comfortable in steemit at the moment :)

Also, there are times I am checking http://steemocean.com/ created by @ura-soul and a rather useful tool is also > http://www.steemreports.com/account-votes/ where you can see anything you want about incoming or outgoing votes.

I hope they will be useful for you!

I was going to write the same things (steemocean and steemreports). So up you go :D
http://www.steemreports.com is much more ample and it can give huge analytics and organic growth indicators.

haha, totally agree :)
I guess that birds of a feather .. do flock together

Thanks for sharing...I haven't heard of any of those. I'll definitely be using steem.rocks!

I keep hearing about Busy, but I am really just getting comfortable with the Steemit layout.

Truly a marvelous post!! I see you've also found what @bozz has done with his terrific series on Chrome extensions, etc. I sincerely suggest you now take each one of these great tools and do a post (short / long / whatever) on each -- like a user review, etc. I would be thrilled to feature that series regularly in our group post. It will really help you get started well here. Welcome to our group. I can see already you'll be a great asset!!

The-STEEM-Engine

That is a wonderful idea! Thank you so much for the suggestion. I will definitely work on putting the series together.

I've used many of these tools, some I had no idea, so thankyou for the info. Also may I just say, how nice it was to find a post with useful info, that didn't ask to be upvoted, resteemed, and follow. I did upvote, and follow though! :)

I'm glad that you found value in them. Thanks for the upvote and for following.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!
