How Do You Feel When You Spend All That Time On A Post And It Earns A Cent?

An Honest Question

Ladies and gentlemen, I want to be real now. No painting of pictures. I want to know how you genuinely feel after you spend all that time researching and writing a post and it ends up with one dollar or one cent.

What do you think at that moment when this reality dawns on you. The feelings can be positive or negetive or both. I want you to share them with me. What usually constitute your next line of action after such incidence?

I believe that steemit is a great platform but I also believe that it is not near perfection. How can we all join hands to make the steem blockchain better?

When are we expecting another hard or soft fork? Is there hope that some of the glaring inadequacies with present state of steemit will abate in the wake of such should it happen?

Is the much talked about EOS going to solve all the noted problems with steem blockchain?

The whales and dolphins are trying enough but the level of influx of new users is alarming.

The minnows are increasing in number by day so what is budgeted for them is being shared by larger than expected number of people.

The Way Forward

The only way forward I can see is just to leave the minnows association of steemit and join the dolphins at worst. The best association to be in is the dolphin or whales association of steemit.

I need genuine contribution to this article. No wishy washy. Just say it as you feel it...

One love my people......

In the early days, I had many, many post that didn't even earn "Dust". (meaning it didn't register a penny)
I felt disappointed and frustrated at times. I must have also felt hope because I kept networking, posting and trying.

To be fair, I am not an Author nor a want to be Author. As a result, I have never been that focused on expecting rewards. I kind of approach it from my post makes what it makes. The value of steem for me is in the long-term value and each post is a way to mine or express or share.
Over time my faith in the ability of the community to self-correct when things times are tough has grown.
I want all those new minnows to join, it might be hard at the beginning but as their stake grows and more buy in the value of this site will go up in my opinion.

Won't disagree on initial posts turning to dust. Will not dispute that minnows will need to make more efforts to jump a level up.

But with more minnows coming in, the disparity in the earnings will continue to grow. If steemit were a site that was purely focussed on quality content, then the dollar value of a post should not be shown. If folks are jumping into steemit, it is not purely because of content quality.

I have come to meet a lot of good artists (more than the other blogging platforms I have been). So in a way, I will continue to create and curate in here despite my earnings. But to me viewership means a LOT!

Even if 10 people read my article and never vote I won't mind, so long as they take time to reply in comments (positive or negative), I might not be feeling this disheartened. On many days, I felt my articles don't lack quality, but I sorely miss feedback.

Luckily I found few peer-review channels in Discord. But don't you think that the growing community also needs to grow an arm and curate/ comment more?

I agree we need more people reading and doing more curation. Too many are voting on auto pilot. Most of the interaction I get on my posts are minnows saying follow me. lol.

Hahahahahaha....at that point I pity the dolphins and the whales because how many people can you possibly follow or help at a time? I guess you just have to try either way

As the platform grows so will the number of Dolphins and Whales. A nice and steady wave of minnows joining is ideal. Although, a tidal wave could cause short term problems but all will even out in the long run. But through it all if we reward 'original content' and deliver 'original content' the future for Steemit is secure.

Well thought out. The challenge is on the immediate. How the minnows feel as soon as they join. A very bad feeling of discontent can only increase churn rate.

So true! And that's where curation comes in - and not just by whales.

I completely agree with this. It's this disparity that can harm the space in the mid to long term. Redistribution of power is what HF19 was intended to do, and in some ways it did. Smaller players saw a bit boost in their earnings. But, it also diminished the incentive to engage with upvoting others.

As for earning dust, it really is about a long term investment, and if we slowly gain people who engage with us through comments and vice versa it's absolutely worth it. I agree with you there, absolutely.

@whatsup is a whale and one of the core community members I respect so much guys so his advice here is gold. Take it home. Meditate on it and keep pushing and looking for ways to advance the platform as you would a coveted invesment. At the end, like he said, it will pay off.

I think that I just reached being a dolphin. However, I make it a point to actually use and interact with the site. I want my investment of time and money to pay off, not only for me, but all of us early adopters. (That means YOU)

Look at your account's estimated balance what if Steem reaches $5 next week. (could happen easily) May or may not happen. This is why I am in it. I don't care about a few dollars today if I might have stake in many dollars tomorrow.

Thank you for the kind words @richguy, I am glad you are here.

I remain grateful to you. You may not know how much I regard you here. You helped me in my post that crossed $200 for the first time about two weeks ago. That helped me alot.keep doing good, you never know who is watching. That is life for you.

I think a lot of people get scared away because they don't see initial rewards at first. This is a great way to approach things @whatsup, following for future

Focus on 'original content' and the rewards will come. We're in a small pool of Steemians right now. We are Steemit pioneers no different than the pioneers who settled the west. Through shear determination they carved out a new world for themselves. Patience.

This is one thing I like to consider, that steemit is still in the very early stages.. However, this can be a good and a bad thing I think. What is your best explanation of 'original content' @brian-rhodes?

Good one!

In my opinion, 'original content' is that which is born from one's personal emotions or thoughts translated into words, images or work in order to satisfy one's desire to share using a public medium for the purpose of giving insight into one's psyche and to increase one's influence and
acceptance.

That's the more philosophical view. A less cerebral definition my be 'An expression of anything that is uniquely yours that you wish to share'.

Interesting, I will definitely be considering this thanks @brian-rhodes

this is indeed a problem for steemians esprcially the newbies and those with less steem power...its quite unfortunate all the hardwork you put into a posts just earns you cents...

Welcome @sarahfeitko. Your comment just earned you more than a cent.

I am new and I do not give up, I think I can reach some dollar ever

Very interesting view. i'm new to steemit by about 1 month. Ive experienced the 1 cent article payout but pushed forward. Im unsure of payouts and how it works at the moment. still as i am a new user, Im in hopes it is a fair media outlet

Amazing view. The best and only way anyways is to ignore the earnings and move forward.

Yeah I have a friend who was talking about investing money into giving himself more power around here on steemit... Not sure what that would even take, any ideas? I mean even to be a dolphin would be nice!

Yes you can buy a lot of steem and send it your account and power it up. That can automatically change your status to a dolphin or whale depending on the amount you invested.

Yeah I know that, but any ideas on rough estimates of how much SP it would take?

To be a dolphin, I guess you need at least from 5000 to 10000 steem power. I am not sure, you have to verify that figure.

Interesting... you mean 500-1000?

Hummm keep pushing and doing what you love doing, in a short while, you will smile.

From the comments section it is clear what is happening! New joiners (like myself) add too many people and end of day are unable to follow a steemer genuinely.

I felt the same pangs on so many occasions. I've poured mid-night oil in writing a poem from heart, gave my best shot at movie review and even tried posting stories. To be honest, I spend less than 3 hours on the actual article and half a day promoting my post to reach an audience of 10 people! My family time is going less and I DO NOT like this at all!

End of day, I notice that folks are attracted to up-vote only on posts having few hundred dollars to pump more money for themselves, or blindly vote on a good looking person or above average dolphin. We are left with little choice other than to use randowhale or whaleshares or minnowsupport to get some traction.

I don't think the recent hard fork did anything. Not one to use expletives, but in all honesty - it has only hard-fucked most of us :D

Ohhhhhh this guy is hilarious. You mean mean that the hard fork left you worse than it met you from what I can read from your post?

This is in relation to the way people began voting in a more conservative way. If you think about it, it became 1/4th.

Not everybody has more than 500 SP => NO SLIDER for most minnows. What do you think minnows will do if they want to make most of this? They vote on the high rollers...

Hence I will insist, as I have done in past. Don't simply vote, please comment and curate. Not everyone is here for the money. For many of us we just needed a more receptive audience :)

Don't get me wrong when I say this, I was not being funny. That was a genuine thought which I decided to express in response to your post.

It is okay, I promise you thay it can only get better. Keep doing what you love doing and be consistent. It will improve with time

Im a newbie here I wonder how do they do that whaling and dolphins earning a lot in less effort and time.plss explain..thank u

You are a newbie so I can understand. Is your problem the earnings of the dolphins and whales or your own earning? I really want to know if you would feel better if everyone was earning like you.

I'm not angry or something, I'm just disappointed.
It is a little frustrating to look at some people with little effort to make large sums of money all the time.

Now I really need to ask this question, would you rather that everyone earns poorly like you at that point. I want an honest answer. The reason is because your major issue is comparative earning. You compared your post earning with that of another post.

Of course not, surely every single day comes a lot of quality posts that deserve every dollar they get because it is a lot of effort and time invested in it.
Every post has the right to be published and we will either vote it or not.
I think the emphasis is on trending posts while at the same time a lot of high quality posts and quality authors do not get enough attention. But obviously it's all about time ...

Time, Networking and "Interesting" posts. (lol, I must struggle with that) I agree that is what it is about.
By the way, I have been frustrated with trending before, and it has a way of working it's self out. I know it can get frustrating... Keep trying.

Thank you @whatsup! It is all about hard work, like everything in life!
