Full Kill with a Live Straddle

poker-1798037__340.jpg

Some of the biggest pots that I have won have not been in big, no-limit cash games, but in fixed limit lower stakes games. I used to play an 8-16 game with a full kill that allowed a live straddle. A kill pot doubles the blinds when a player wins two pots in a row. The kill button gets passed to the player that wins each pot and when that button stays put your 8-16 game turns into a 16-32 game!

A live straddle is when the player under the gun, first to act, posts an immediate raise and gets the option of raising again after the big blind has acted. Some aggressive players will live straddle and raise “in the dark”, or without looking at their cards. So, if you want to go to the flop you will put in 64$ before you see anything in a kill pot. This game usually had 4-7 players paying to see the flop, 448$ in the pot before the flop! This game played huge. It played way bigger than any 30-60 game filled with a bunch of old nits.

Cast of Characters

Cobra, an 86 year old lady in a wheelchair, an insistent bluffer that would raise the river on complete air,

*

Kato, the table captain, a trust fund baby whose family owned a grocery store chain, would keep $2000 in one-dollar chips in front of him at all times,
*

Chippers, our local drug dealer and poker donator extraordinaire, would announce “hot garbage” as he cold called the capped pot with 8- 4 off,
*

Pizza Man, who owned several Domino’s pizza franchises and would do deliveries himself for tip money so his wife wouldn't find out he was playing poker,
*

Action Eric, who played every single pot and raised every street until he ran out of chips,
*

Mr. Chang, who owned a bunch of discount tobacco kiosks, and would say “enjoy” or “no choice” every time he called a bet,
*

Tree Bark, who made book all up and down the Aurora and had a hand in all the shylocking around the casinos and card rooms.

This game was spread at the world famous Grove in Everett WA, some of the best action that I have ever witnessed. These were the characters I got to share time with as we battled day in and day out, made great friends and a few enemies. We borrowed money from each other freely and traded all kinds of elicit materials over the poker table. I watched my cousin sell his truck for cash to seat 3 and buy a used car for cash from seat 6, the whole transaction started and finished right there between hands. These were crazy magical times I will never forget.

Crazy game of poker you say?

I remember flying into Seatac on a Friday (for the Seahawks game on Sunday) and making the Grove Friday no-limit tournament with @blacky and @depbill.

I got 4/4 the very first hand and called the BB (an elderly Asian woman) out in front, she raised and I called again. Turns out she had QQ in her hand. Q44 flopped and she went all in because she "had to". I called and she was in disbelief, after all she flopped the "nut" boat.

In her excitement, I guess she forgot only one Q was showing and two 4's. Needless to say, she lost to my quads. I thought she was going to pull a knife and kill me on the spot. "Who the f&%# quads on their first hand?!?" To which I replied, "who goes all in without the nuts?"

I was legit scared and thought she was going to shank me. I ended up cashing and having a story. I have a strong feeling this place makes stories every single day.

Dirty bad beat you put on her!

well thats me playing poker

have you very nice please see my kesanda once and do not forget also vote me @ brienda

Awesome story and a cast of characters made for tv. One of the crazier games I have ever played in was a 4-8 limit Omaha Hilo game in an underground poker game here in Hawaii. Almost every street of every hand was capped. Good times!😝

Lower stakes Omaha always seems to get huge, no one ever folds!

That sounds batshit amazing 'mano!! I haven't played any crazy live games yet.
