A Lot Of People Want To Be Heroes On Steemit... A Simple Thought Worth The Consideration

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

Talking about how to fix or save Steem and Steemit is important, and that's what a lot of people do a lot of.

It's admirable to want to help and regularly post ideas and positions, to challenge people to rise to the calling, to promote ideas that aim to improve things.

It's great that genuine people truly want to make things better, letting us know about the steps they've taken. It's appreciated. They should be proud. We need it, most of the time.

A lot of rewards come from this activity. It's easy to upvote.

Big stakeholders may follow this circular activity perhaps because it's offering some hope for what they believe in or their investment.

If posts like these keep getting paid so well, why stop posting often on these topics?

On the contrary,

prioritizing the engagement, replying to, upvoting and support of those who continue to deliver quality content about things other than the topic above is just as admirable, albeit much less emotionally or fiscally rewarded...

Not trying to brand oneself a Steem savior/superman/superwoman, and simply acting like one towards content creators who care is just as respectable in my book, albeit far less emotionally or fiscally rewarded...

And with less incentive for those motivated by engagement or rewards, the latter is lesser of a priority to most.

"But you should be happy with anything greater than $0 you'd get elsewhere," says the one making plenty...

And then adoption decreases...

And viral marketing decreases...

And investment in Steem decreases...

And Steem and Steemit's active user base recedes further.

It's just reality. People rewarding each other in the cheerleading camp may get the sense of positive impact, but it's among a small circle.

The larger population may still be hanging on by a thread wondering why Steem is as special as everyone says it should be.

It's much harder to get new users than to keep existing ones. If I only got the sense that the most influential people on here cared just as much about this than posting in circles about issues and ideas easily doable in Discord to the audience that's paying attention, well...

Thanks,
@steemmatt

@paulag posted the other day about how we tend to be too inward looking here on Steem. Her point was that we're not using other platforms to promote our work and to get the word out on Steem.

The other part of that inward looking is sometimes we can do more posting about the platform than adding content of wider interest to the platform.

Fair points. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

Well said!! The pep talk posts circle jerks make me want to lash out and often times I do. I'm just so sick and tired of what I personally see as propaganda, as its rooted in contradictions and always politically motivated. It's turning me into a troll 😂 and I have no problem shitting all over these saviors that in my eyes are all talk. Especially, when I'm aware of the reality that only a handful of people actually dictate how this place operates and the entire top 20 witnesses are in bed with them.

Yes Matt , totally agree here . While planning and setting a goal for the general direction of the platform is something that is necessary i have seen many content creators just feeling "pushed away" since other topics seem like less relevant. Hard for users that just want to come and maybe blog , share and post some music/pictures/writings ,etc. It does feel like a bit off in balance lately. Also this is still what i call an adolescent platform , it's going to take time until everything balances out and there is a place where both investors and just users of a social media feel comfortable , i Guess we all need to practice patience . Cheers bro!

I can only agree with you. If it comes to it everybody over here helps fixing Steem and Steemit. Simply by being enthusiastic about it, but there is less to be enthusiastic about if you are not able to post, comment, repost, if the questions you have will never be read or answered. Be honest then it is way easier to join Facebook, twitter, instagram, wordpresd

Thanks for your comment. It seems like new updates, issues and/or resolutions are in flux daily, so hopefully we can just enjoy our ride in the meantime. That's what I'm going to try to do at least. The transparent politics make me nauseous.

I think that is the only thing we can do. I wish you a happy day

You do a great job. I really hope Steem takes off for the long run so people like you can get the reward they overly deserve for their hard work and effort, far above and beyond what 98% of the people do around here.
