Don't bother: Declining comment payouts

in #steemit6 years ago

At this point in my Steemit life, I don't need to get rewarded for my comments. Since for the most part it is smaller accounts upvoting, I would rather they use their power in more productive ways.

Declining payout means that a comment can still be boosted for visibility (something I don't generally do myself) but, the reward stays in the pool. Those doing it for only visibility should all change their settings.

There are times I might turn 50/50 back on but, I don't know what for yet.

If you want to reward a comment I make, add more to one of my posts instead. The extra effort will make sure you mean it and it is still appreciated. If you want to leave a 'read receipt', 1% is fine.

This doesn't save much from the pool, maybe 3-5 SBD a week but, that is 3-5 for someone else. This is about principle when there are people upvoting their own comment for hundreds per week. Obviously I do not want people who need to earn from comments to do this but, if you are a bigger fish, you aren't likely to miss a couple SBD... unless you upvote your own comments a lot and high.

If you really feel your comments have to be rewarded as a big fish, at least go to 100% power up and take the current loss on return but show you may be here for the longer haul.

I suspect this will make no difference to anything but, it might save a little power for someone to encourage another.

Thanks.

On a side note, I am posting from my phone for the first time in a while and I am glad the Preview is working better.

This is how I see this playing out. You as someone who actually cares about the community will decline the payout. Someone who does not and simply rapes the pool will "take" the steem you are putting back into the pool. The bad actor will continue to grow strength instead of the good actor.

I could never do that. lol

Duly noted. I practically make most of my rewards from comments at this stage so it may take a while before I say something similar... It's okay waiting though

Yeah, as said, this isn't for everyone but people seem to like either upvoting themselves highly or rubbing the umm 'bellies' of big fish in comments sections.

Have a look at @dustsweeper
I do not think you personally will have much use for it, But it might be something you can post about to let the plankton who follow you know. it is to bring newbies up to a min threshold payout.

Thanks, Will check it out and let people know if it is decent-ish :)

good call, I will delegate a little and see how it goes and write a post about it.

Hi Taraz. I do understand your thinking. Lately i have been struggling in the 70 percent vote power. I just can't get it back. i hate reading a post without voting. It does make me feel awkward. I can't wait to get to the stage where my vote actually registers an amount. Won't be long as I am pushing myself and is my first target. Maybe you are going to start a trend but doubt it lol.

I doubt it also but, the excuse For visibility doesn't hold up anymore as it will still push the comment up with a declined payout. It is just a layer of justification taken away from the argument. I have self voted comments 2 or 3 times total I think with there always being a reason for it. One of those was to leave a note to commenters which I unvoted again later.

Told you before you are a rare breed and nearly extinct on here. If there were 100 of you on here it would be a much better place.

Yeah i doubt it to, with all the self voters as it is! Nothing worse than people who upvote their own worthless comments - makes my skin crawl, especially if they don't upvote your post.

I can understand upvoting an important comment for visibility

And even then.. It happens so often that I see "upvoted for visibility", and the comment brings nothing new to the table

We all know someone like that.

Does it show that you've declined on your comment itself?

Testing.

Now it shows. Nice.

Yeah.. it seemed it didn't save it (with the problems earlier)

Good move @tarazkp. Let us see how many big actors follow your path.

I love your work and that you do not just talk about talking! The community needs more people like you, that even though you have accounts to pay and a family to support, you support and help us without expecting millions in return ... Thank you!

Frankly I don’t catch the point you decline payouts at your comments...I think that depending on the comment an upvote there means sometimes that you agree with the topic presented...or you would prefer another reply instead?

as said, if you want to leave a 'read receipt' 1% will do. If you do not have the SP to spare, a comment is always appreciated. I don't live off comment rewards and I would rather those without the power to use it somewhere that matters, hopefully to reward the comments of others.

That's a fantastic test of faith I didn't even know this existed, well this declined reward if I'm not, when done by a lot of other people, will it increase the poll?
