I'm Working On A Site That Could Help Parents & Teachers

in #steemiteducation6 years ago

I'm going to do a little shameless promotion today as a way to crowdsource feedback and ideas. I am going to share a little side project that I have been doing on a site called althed.com. The site has two main objectives. One is to promote local education businesses and the other is to provide parents in Malaysia with some tips on charting their children's future. Some of the ideas are universal so it may apply no matter which country you are in.

The Education Business Promotion

The idea came when a friend asked me to promote his education center in Kota Kinabalu. I thought why not do it through Steemit? After all, he will rank rather high on Google search and not to mention have a rather cool blog. He agreed to the idea and thus althed.com was born. Althed.com, pronounced as 'altered' stands for ALl THings EDucation or ALternative THoughts on EDucation.

He wanted to promote his business as a fun place for children to learn, away from the stresses of school. However, he could not convince parents to send their children to his center. Most parents, he thought, preferred centers that cramp the children full of knowledge. Thus, he wanted althed.com to serve as a platform that educated parents on the importance of play. The idea is to leverage my position as an educator, a trainer and a Doctorate candidate to help provide some weight to his points.

Presentation At An Education Conference

I was hoping to further expand this to include other education centers in the local community. Hopefully, other centers would see the value of having a blogger promote their business? Perhaps, I can be a Blockchain Education Publicist or is it a blogger? Do let me know your thoughts.

Tips & Tricks On Education

This stems from my experience speaking with parents and being involved in education for a while. I have realized that there are certain aspects such as what happens after high school or how to chart a child's future that is missing. I want althed.com to be a place where we can speak about how to help a child.

Aspects that I intend to cover include selecting a good school, non-academic skills to focus on as well as study hacks. I believe that there is so much to talk about. Often, I see a lot of posts on Facebook that speak of counseling services. This is to sell a particular service or course. However, I hope to provide some background to the education terms and confusing statements that these centers often use.

But I Do Need Your Help

I hope that this site would become a great source of reference for parents looking for education centers or some pointers in planning for their children's future. Granted, I may not be able to give a comprehensive service like certain consultants, but at the very least, I can give some background to the right questions to ask.

That being said, I am looking for ideas for challenges faced by parents or teachers. Also, to all the seasoned bloggers out there, I do need advice on the site. Do let me know your thoughts in the comments below and let's make this a great resource site for parents and teachers in Malaysia.

There's a universal problem with many kids nowadays ie. learning disability. May be you could provide various tips and tricks on that front.

That's a great idea! When you said learning disabilities, are you refering to a particular disability?

By "disability", I seem to cover all.... But the most basic one starts as the disability to read and then comes the disability to grasp ideas and notions... And a fatal one is the disability to retain.... There are many more... Hope you got the idea.

All the time you surprise me. I can tell you that it would be a good idea to divide the site into visible and separate sectors. You have put a slogan on the homepage "Ideas to Help Parents, Teachers & Students in Education" That's why I think there should be three separate sections for parents, teachers and students. By throwing everything into one stream you won't be so effective. For each of these departments I would develop a different slogan that would be of benefit to a specific audience. Each of these sectors should also be promoted differently. I wouldn't promote the whole website as a single creation because your message will not be matched and the audience will have to be very general. By promoting a sector for students, you choose young people and create a call to action for them only, for example: "Learn about these educational tricks and save 3 hours a day for your enjoyment." Of course, this is just an example. ;)
As the main slogan I would put something like "Centre of smart minds". Of course it all depends on how you want to develop this site.

That's a great idea! Thanks for the tip, will revamp it a little haha.. Although my next qualm would be the language, wondering if I should translate it to other languages.

This seems an amazing initiative, but I probably have nothing to really give as ideas, I have no children, I am not a teacher, so my advice would be little help. I am sure there will be some amazing steemians however that will chime in! good luck

Thanks man, appreciate your thoughts on it. Of course, I would appreciate your thoughts on other matters such as your first impression of it

@alvinauh
Wow, that's a good initiative! (:

Maybe how to bridge the gap from the academic to the working world (not just after high school, but after college/university). Because it's no longer about grades and scoring well - these will matter much less once students leave school.

It's more about project management, effective communication and teamwork etc etc.

Jiayou! (:
