Finding Your Sport

There are students that don't get along well with sports. And when they take it as an assignment in school, they normally resent it. Here's when some say that there are two groups: One composed by people who are good at sports and others who aren't.

I don't believe in that... it's not a rule of thumb. Of course, there are people who are naturally better than others, but that doesn't mean that being good at some activity is just restricted to certain people.

Doing sports wasn't hard for me. But I remember how hard it was for some of my classmates years ago. Some of them didn't even have the opportunity to express themselves in the field. And this is a big problem because in that crucial moment, if a student cannot manage it, things get worse... students who don't perform well in sports are often categorized by others, which might result in a possible case of bullying.

In addition to that, the atmosphere can be unbearable. The student feels the pressure on the shoulder and it causes that he retreats more into himself, accepting that sports is not for him.

But as I said, it cannot be like that because many times we get carried away by what other say. And when support is absent, we tend to believe that initial result cannot be change.

Find the sports that suit you better

All of us have ever been attracted to a certain sport. And at some point of our lives, we've ventured into practicing it. And then we find out whether we're good at it or not.

And whatever the result might be, each person show skills to a particular activity to the extend that we don't need much practice to execute at a great level. Nevertheless, some people focus more on one sport that they end up ignoring their abilities toward others.

There's a saying that dictates to exploit your strengths. And when it comes to sports, we don't have to let pass the chance to show it. That's why we need to diversify and look for that kind of activity that we perform with good expertise.

We could encounter a sport that we don't like too much, but we're good at it. It happens. And what we can do is to try to make it fun while we do it. For example, I'm good at baseball, but I don't fully like it because it's kind of slow. But when I used to play in school, I did it differently. I tried to play it with fast moves.

Never underestimate your abilities

When we practice a sport and we don't do it well, there is this rush asseveration that we suck at it. And though it could be truth, we have to observe the big picture...

Perhaps we play with others that have more experience. Or that might not be the sport that we essentially dominate. But with practice, we can all get better. If professionals do it, why can't we?

Everything we do in life improve when we commit to it. You know what they say, "Practice makes the master." And even though we don't achieve a top level, we can consistently get better.

You play for fun not for competition

The thing about practicing sports go beyond winning for regular people. We can have the passion for winning, which is understandable, but the important thing is to enjoy the experience.

Many people refrain themselves from practicing sports because of shame. They are afraid that others might make fun of them... that leads to poor self-stem and cement the idea that all sports are not from them.

Therefore, we must ask ourselves why we practice sports. The first feeling that drove us to do any recreational activity is joy. When we were children, we didn't immediately throw ourselves into basketball or baseball in order to compete. We did it and keep doing it just for fun. Later, the environment around can push us to make it all competitive.

The necessity to do sports

Doing sports is great for health. There's not need for me to list all the benefits because we've all heard them before. For instance, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been doing a tour through Europe where he is motivating people to do sports.

Recently, while he was in Barcelona, he remarked in an interview that today's fitness changed completely compared to the years he lifted weights. Right now is more about the experience... to revitalize the body. He said that we have to get up from the couch and do some physical activity outdoors or workout at home. Whatever it is, we just need to stay away from a sedentary life.

I love my sport chess

My GrandGeorge the First starts in the chess club at his school this week. However, if he explains it correctly, they have to do some sort of exercises like situps, laps, bleachers, etc... while the other person is making their move. I thought this was really strange, but after speaking with the coach I feel this is a good thing.
Thanks for such a great post!
Ren

I didn't know they do things like like situps, laps, bleachers in chess. That definitely makes it more interesting.

I don't think it is a normal thing. The chess club my Grand George the First is part of is combining the game and physical activity. The coach says a strong mind is encouraged by a strong body. He said his goal is to encourage future sports players to also have a brain. I really like that, especially since here in the States sports are encouraged more than smarts.
