You received a MANDATE. Do you follow or stand firm
During the Chinese Emperor reign, ministers would receive xing zhi from the Emperor's speaker or what we're most familiar with *despatch. *Xing zhi is usually in a form of a scroll which the Emperor would write down in black ink the instructions HE has for the ministers. These instructions ranges from good fortune to bad ones. Sometimes, it could be even an arranged marriage which the ministers have to follow without objection.
In today's world we still have such practice though it's not so vivid as the ancient times. Yes, it still exist be it from our superiors or family members. When received such strong mandate instructions, does one simply comply or stand firm to deny such instructions.
In the past one week, I was unfortunate to have receive such xing zhi. Instead of giving a straightforward & firm answer to deny the instruction, I allowed the *Emperor to dwell over it. Hoping that HE would pass the idea along & not go ahead with the MANDATE. Sadly for me, it didn't happen. Eventually, it came to a point that the xing chi had to be pushed down my throat as acceptance. Did I agree to it ? No! I still deny acceptance of the xing chi & stood firm on my grounds that this is not the ancient times & ministers or not are no longer subject to such harsh instructions.
Naturally, the *Emperor did not approve my actions & categorize it as insubordination. Am I to expect punishment or perhaps some understanding as to my actions. The end has yet to be concluded. But know that I will not give in to such manner. Question is : WILL YOU ?

I guess many cultures have a “what you’re supposed to do” type of attitude.
I vacillate between following traditions and choosing for myself. The older I get the more I realize that “choosing for myself” has consequences bigger than me. Sure, I may be in a better position because of my specific decisions, but the whole is weaker.
I have to ask: “Does going against traditions make me a stronger person? Or a selfish American?”

Wish I cld just swallow it but it will affect my quality time w the kids. Even if there is $ remunerations, how does one put a price tag on family ?

So sorry you have to go through such a hard time, it must be really disheartening to be in such a tight spot. I always believe a healthy workplace is important for work, and I'm well aware no workplace or superior is perfect. Having said that, superiors (not your boss) and subordinates are a team. It may be an order, but should it not be beneficial in a long run someone should say something about it, especially when it directly involves you and would affect your welfare. I understand that this is work, and to go against the tide may not seem as a good move to many, but if we've come a long way to only be succumbed to harsh orders that would affect your life in a wider scale, remember you have a life and you are first answerable to you. You may not be able to change the emperor, but you have the choice and power to decide for yourself. All the best mama, may favor and wisdom be your aid. Thanks so much. I do believe that when a door starts to close, a window opens elsewhere too. It's all part of God's way of showing me the light. And YES ! If it affects my personal welfare esp my family, I won't go down without a fight even if it's my superiors.

Well, sadly in the Philippines, there are some unspoken mandate that first borns carry and I decided to not acknowledge it anymore. The result, my family don't talk to me anymore, or hardly talk to me. It's for the better though.

Hi lovenfreedom. I can understand what you're feeling. I've got several friends in Makati & they too say the same thing. Anyhow, you've got to live your life the way you think it should be & not by other people's rules. I do hope I have positive updates. The next few days is going to be tough.
