It's a start- Some Animation from @austinvisuals

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

Hello from the Splinterlands. I'm happy to show off this albeit brief starting point for some animation. I thought you'd like to see that it's just now coming together. Characters have already been computerized and animation is starting to creep out now. I'm hopeful we're still on target for the start of September as that's also when the Kickstarter campaign rolls out.

This is short, but a lot of work had to happen to get here. Now I think more pieces can start rolling out faster.

A note from the artist/animator- "I'm Kiy, the lead animator for this project! These shots of Talia were animated using both puppet and hand-drawn techniques, which allows the animation to look lively and energetic while still being quick and efficient to produce."

"I'm Gabriel, The Director and Storyboard Artist. Because we don't have a big Hollywood budget I wanted to make sure every scene had top-notch drawing and staging and were just fun to look at.
I wanted to make sure the action scenes stood alone as cool art, add cool FX animation and I think we have something that is exciting to view. "

What I really need to know is if you guys can dig this art and this style. I've written several more 1-2 minute videos into the kickstarter and am looking at spending 10s of thousands of dollars to roll out some animations. I know it's not a ton to go off of, but can you see this working?

Please comment below. We'll use a 1-5 scale. If you think it's an amazing start please put a 5 in a comment, if you think it's terrible and will hurt us to release please put a 1 in a comment.

I think it seriously looks amazing and smooth! This is how the great toy lines of the 80's started, with cartoons! Great work!

It fantastic for all.
Obviously 5

hmm. On one hand I'm like OHMAHGAWD SOCOOL. On the other hand I'm wondering if this art style will cater to an adult market. Sooooo...

Hey @aggroed, great start on the animations. I've done some basic research into target demographics for the digital collectibles market for a whitepaper I co-authored. All the info is easily accessible but would be happy to share with you on discord if it would be of value.

In my opinion this seems targeted to a really young group, and not necessarily the your target demographic, however I don't know what you decided as your target..

The images and animation look great, but targeted too young imo so I'll give it a 2.

Regardless its always great to see progress on ones initiatives so congrats.

Totally a 5.

Art style is super cute and can be appreciated by adults and kids alike.

Honestly it doesn't kick me. What could be reasons for that?

  • i'm a old honcho in the 40s and need more serious monster fighting clashing stuff instead of big eyed cute manga dragons
  • there is not much story to evaluate in this very short animation, and it seems a bit static in comparison to the first storyboard you showed us!

..my opinion could change if this cute female dragon will do some serious fighting action in a bit longer clip.. and transforms to something but i like the big guys from our current card edition much more!

If it should be funny i remember the first storyboard or some scene where a huge fierce monster from the current edition stands before a sweet Angel of Light and gets some serious beating on his nose after LOL!

The whole thing will focus on family and multi generations. This is just one of the characters. I’m mostly looking at level of animation and less the character themselves. It’s bettervthan southpark, but not quite Disney. Does this work?

I don't wanna make a decision with this very short clip. I guess it could be enough but it's very hard to figure out with these few milliseconds. The final scene looks promising in terms of facial expression for the cute character in my opinion. But if i should invest 10s of thousands of money then i would see more references, maybe you can make a pilot animation with a smaller amount of money to get things right?

Dude, I read something this morning that alarmed me about litigation concerns and wrote a little about it. https://busy.org/@moneyhacks/is-the-hex-shards-of-fate-story-a-warning-for-steem-monsters
It turns out it was from a few years back but worth keeping in the back of your mind as you move forward.

We're making a drafting game. It's pretty different.

I love it so far, and the voice is awesome, though a bit cutesy @aggroed! upped and resteemed!

Maybe a 3? I like the look and the voice, but watching it without sound it looked like someone hit the rewind button- the movements seemed too fast.
