Half Dollar Coin Roll Hunting

Hey everyone! Well, recently I was able to find a few more rolls of half dollars at a local bank. It seems like it is rather difficult to find them, but when you do, they usually have a bunch of them. In this case, the teller was extremely excited to get rid of them. Haha!

After talking with them, they claimed that someone who used to work there brought in a bunch of them several years ago. Something about their uncle horded them and had them stashed all over the place in his house. So, they must not have been kidding when the said they had a ton of them.

Anyways, I thought I would try my luck and I got 6 rolls. Well, after searching through them I did not really find anything. There were a bunch of the Bi-Centennials and several early 2000 coins. My guess is that whoever brought them in several years ago had already searched through them and picked out all of the silver. I may try to stop back by and pick up a few more at least one or two more times, but we will have to wait and see. There is always better luck next time. Haha!

Thanks for stopping by and reading!

I have gotten into this recently. I have the back order boxes of $500 worth of coins for me. I have found that I enjoy finding the unique coins more than finding plain silver. I have opened about 20 boxes so far and 14 customer rolls. What I have learned is that it’s completely hit or miss. At least 5 of the boxes I have opened have had nothing at all valuable in them. My best box had 46 silver coins of which 13 were 90%. (10 64s, 2 franklins, 1 walker). My last hunt of 3,000 coins yielded 4 silver coins, 64, 67, 2x 68. The customer rolls were interesting in that 13 had nothing and the last roll had 9 silver in it, all 40%. I have found 4 S mint coins and 1 Booker T Washington. Getting a bum box is a drag but you have to look at the big picture.

Wow, 46 coins! That is awesome. I know it will be hit and miss, but if I do not try, I will get nothing. Haha!

The S mint coins were those the Bi-Centennial?

That’s typical now. Unless you get really lucky you won’t find very many. The best you will find are 40%

Yeah, that is what I have been thinking. I may switch it up and see if I can find some of those new 2019 quarters. I go to the bank later today, do you have any advice on how to get newer rolls or tell if the bank just got them?

You won’t find any silver unless you try. Keep up the good work

Haha! You got that right. Thanks @bowentroyer!

Do yoy ever fing any S mint marks?

I have found 4 S mint coins, all in the same hunt.

I haven't yet. The first time I sift through them, I look for the easy silver to pick out and then go back later and look at the mint marks. With as many of them as there are, I am hoping to get at least one. I am also thinking about looking for those new 2019 quarters everyone is talking about. Haha!

I watched a lot of YouTube channels that do this and it's getting tougher to find unchecked rolls, may hit a 40% here or there but are some still out there but there also other collectable out there including NIFCs and such.

'Not Intended for Circulation'

Yeah, I have been reading about those. I may have to start pulling them out just in case they are worth something in a few decades. Haha!

I usually try the small town banks. Also noticed I find more silver in pocket change in small towns. Probably old savings seeing the light of day again. Keep it up @knowledge-seeker.

Thanks @vgholdingsllc! One of the banks I hit is a small town bank, but the other ones are in a little bigger city, so I do not expect much luck there. I may try to get some quarters coming up the next time I go to the bank, just to see if I can get a couple of those new ones. Haha!

I use to go to the Banks to pick up Rolls and Rolls of Real Silver Dollars, to see if I could find any Carson City Mint Marks... I kept going from Bank to Bank to Bank... I wish I knew then, what I know now... The same story should now apply to all those Half Dollars you're probably about to return...

Looking for Carson City Mint Marks must have been hard because those are the real high dollar ones. I do not always return them all. I have been thinking about trying to collect the entire series of Kennedy's, so I am sure I will have a lot laying around. Haha!

I never did find any in Circulation... I have quite a few now...
