Glad you explained what MTB was. Lol I thought mints didn't like to let ANY errors through? So when you say double stamping was common then, I'm a bit taken back.

Exactly... they want their rounds and bars to be perfect most especially the MTBs. The special design of MTB Statue of Liberty silver and gold medals and bars were minted for the centennial celebration, so the rounds in both gold and silver were considered commemoratives along with the gold and silver bars. Then many other foundries, refiners and mints used the design for their generic rounds, just as the designs of US coins are depicted in generic rounds and bars. Have a lovely Sunday, @welshstacker.
